Panthers will face former QB twice this year (Bucs name QB)

Yep, the Bucs have named Josh McCown as their starting QB this season. This should be fun.

Coach Lovie Smith confirmed Mike Glennon will be the Bucs' No. 2 quarterback this season.

The Buccaneers attempted to perform post-draft damage control after trying to trade Glennon in May by claiming he'd compete with Josh McCown to start. That didn't last long. "Mike will have a role on our team," Lovie insisted. "The backup quarterback plays an important [role]. Not only that, Mike will also be our second holder. Little things like that that we’ll ask him to do." Aug 7 - 12:49 AM

Absolutely love it. Obviously, they're going nowhere with him. But, they will likely win just enough games to keep out of the "draft lottery" if you will. A decent/good chance they'll be out of range of a Mariota, Hundley, Winston, et al. And, they give up on Glennon who at least showed small flashes in year one. Love it.

On August 29, 2008, the Carolina Panthers acquired McCown from the Dolphins for a 7th round pick (#237 overall) in the 2009 NFL Draft. The move came a day after Panthers quarterback Matt Moore suffered a leg injury.[12][13] He made his debut as a Panthers player when he entered the field against the Atlanta Falcons only for the end-game kneeldowns that drained the last 73 seconds from the clock. He had the same role against theKansas City Chiefs.

Stellar.

McCown killed it with Jeffery and Marshall. He has something similar albeit not as good with Jackson and Evans. Evans is a question mark. Bucs aint poo.

True, but Lovie Smith is not the offensive guru that Marc Trestman is.

Expect McCown to come back down to Earth and be promptly buried by Monsters Inc.

    • I mean not surprised the Patriots took him in and aren't trying to push him out. They've been the most morally bankrupt team in the NFL for a long while. Wouldn't be surprised if Vrabel has his own dirt on Kraft/Brady and other assholes from that organization over the last couple decades.
    • Hows this bloke meant to be able to tell his players to have accountability with a straight face
    • You could be right. But, I think the more likely explanation is that the Titans brass had suspicions that Vrabel was up to some shady poo and hired some spooks to follow him around and document anything that could get them out of paying out his contract. His whole exit from Tennessee seemed odd at the time. It's starting to make a whole lot more sense now. As for why/how it's all coming out now? Isn't this story coming from Bitty Pablo? Despite the gossipy topics he's covered that have gone viral, dude is the absolute antithesis of a tabloid journalist! Pablo Torres is out there filing FOIAs, searching out legit informed sources on and off the record, and pouring through the minutiea of public/leaked documents for his reporting. If catches a whiff of a story, he's like a belligerent bloodhound bellowing for a bitch in heat!
