Kick Returner/Punt Returner

yes the MAN is certainly not yet on the roster and we'd be fooling ourselves to think he is... that return game makes me want to throw something every time to ball is caught after a kick. smh... I'd rather webb back there before those we saw last night. smh... we need that ball out to the 30-40 on kickoff every once in a while and 15+ on punt returns is doable.

I just hope we don't let Cason near that spot... Way too many other people other than our best and number 1 CB.

Pilares can give solid returns.. He is coming back off an injury and still a young guy. I believe in him for ball security. I agree about barner.. had high hopes and still believes he can be some type of threat but man he is getting blasted out there.

Right now my vote is Pilares..

barner as the 2nd on kick returns.

A Michael Bates type returner is what we need.  Less dancing and more north south running.  It seemed that he didn't hesitate before cutting it up the field.  He didn't always take it to the house but mostly ended in positive yards.  Maybe that's why some people say that they miss Ted Ginn. Because even though he would angle for the sidelines, he atleast caught the ball and netted positive yards.  That's why I think that field positioning should be more the focus than the big play.  This philosophy works for kick returning but maybe not so much for punt returning which is a little more congested.

Reaves is a better back than Barner. All of the Wrs  or at least the ones to make the team are better than Pilares. We should cut both of them and let either Lucas or Bersin give it a try to see if they can do the job.  This way they get to see the field and gain experience they won't get at wr this year. Both of these should make the team.  If this doesn't work look for a FA.  Benwikere is fast and might make a good returner.

Strangely Pilares has a higher career return average than Bates.

When you have returned a less than 10 kickoff I'm sure your average is better than his. But point being Pilares is just not a good kickoff returner and I don't know why Rivera likes him so much. He's just not that great for one he's a long strider, he isn't elusive at all. I feel like he may be a better track athlete than a football player. He just isn't football fast, the one kickoff return he had a wide open lane and I believe it was before the kickoff was moved up.

The best case scenario is Phily Brown being good enough for both KR & PR duties with minimal WR looks behind King and Bersin.  Barner is option #2 (if he makes the team).  Cason is emergency.   Or Bene comes out of nowhere.

I like Pilares but he takes a while to get to top speed.
