My last shot at Steve Smith as a man...

The 5 stages of grief are denial, anger, bargaining, depression and acceptance.  In the spirit of Zod's last shot of Steve Smith as a Panther post, I just wanted to say a couple of things.

I do not take back any of my rants on this forum, my comments to friends, my call-ins to the Mac Attack, my rants to the Whiner Line.  I truly believe we are better off without Steve.  He is older.  He has lost a step, maybe 2.  He is not a good teammate and he was not good in any way for Cam's maturation process and he would have been even worse as a mentor to a new receiver like Kelvin.

When I heard Steve was gone my heart broke, got really pissed but then justified my anger by exaggerating his diminishing skills, skipped the bargaining phase along with the depression (self medication is really under rated) and now I accept it.

Not that any of you give a poo, but I am done beating the hell out of Steve Smith.

I can't write flowing articles like Philly B or Zod or pique your intellect like Mr Scot (who I think is actually Irish), or piss you off in the good way like Frash, or make you laugh like SCP, or do whatever everybody does on this forum like so many do.  But I can tell the truth.

I'm done hating SS#89 for not being here.  It wasn't his choice.  He was a good Panther..........a great Panther........and we should be proud that he played for us.

Sorry for the rant but I had to get that off my chest.

Not to be "That guy", but, couldn't you just have posted this in the original thread? jk

Where's the fun it that?

Plus it's got nothing to do with Jeremy's last pic.  That is actually special.  My poo is just poo.  A rant.

Don't want to get rant in special.  They have nothing in common.

The only thing Smitty deserve is respect.

He is not a Panthers anymore, ok.. maybe even for a good reason, but still he deserve a lot of respect for all the good seasons and good moments.

Personally i always forget the bad and keep the good, life is too short.

Carpe diem dammit.

This is like all those average sportcasters with Thomas Davis..

Thomas Davis the man with 3 acl injuries..

And never Thomas Davis the Outstanding OLB with 628 tackles, 15 sacks, 6 interceptions, 11 FF

Shall we invite Davis to Hawaii? no no Davis this is 3 ACL injuries!!!!! We will give him the medicine nobel prize..

For me Smitty this is 10 years of pur happiness and good moments, all the TDs, All the funny trash talks, etc.

Some will resume Smitty to a couple of punches.. This is your life..

I did not respect Smitty.  He sucked as a teammate.  He was a gamer, but the $$ we would have had to pay him to keep a 35-year old here was stupid.  4 TDs, 745 yards.  Benjamin will do better than that.

I think it is quite possible 2 of our WRs this year do better.

Smitty was a dick, for the most part.  To fans, to teammates, to the opposition.  A self-promoter.  Maybe he should go for the professional hat trick and punch out a teammate in Baltimore.  I doubt Harbaugh would put up with it.

For many years, Steve Smith was the only  Panthers offensive player that any other team feared.

Like many NFL players in general and WRs specifically, there was an ego and he was a little man, playing a big man's game.

He's gone now, probably 2 years too late, and had he played for a team that had a decent QB the last 4 years of his career, there

would be no question that he would be in the hall of fame.

The fact is we know little about the people whose jerseys we wear and whose efforts we cheer.  Some are better than we think and

some worse than we can ever imagine and some get too much forgiveness when they should be in jail.

I wish Steve well.  We all should wish him well as a man, a husband and a father.

    • I've liked him since his rookie year as a prospect, but when he's been asked to play in a large capacity, he has simply not done well.   He does not really add anything, rather muddies up the room.  Fant is TERRIBLE as a blocker, a pure receiving TE.   Let's just put Tremble aside since he's PUP (although I still like him as a TE2, but yeah he's not our future starter)... Sanders has already shown better receiving skills than a Fant and has a nice ceiling.  Not to mention, he's got in-line run blocking skills.  I really want to see what he's capable of this year.  Also has a year+ experience now in Canales' offense, not to mention legit chemistry with Bryce. And after Sanders, I also imagine our staff is waiting to see how Mitchell Evans looks in camp as he's got the in-line blocking skills.  If he looks fully capable of filling in behind Sanders, then I don't see a need.  Overall, keep an eye out on early August moves.  They are usually soft indicators of how staff's view their rookie late rounders and roster overall.  This is a wait and see what the market presents and how they think their unit looks in camp.
    • Every team has different needs of the backup QB.   On some teams a young hopeful makes sense and on others an old worn out dude makes sense.  We are a little more in the in-between IMO where you probably would prefer a Fields, Pickett, Howell type IMO.   So a young disappoint that you there is still some hail mary hope in.....given BY essentially was benched both seasons for performance (I know that's not the official line going into Seattle but I think most would agree he got a break and should of been benched later that year).  I know we want Bryce to be the week 17 guy all season this upcoming year.  But it's still in the reasonable thought process that the other dude could show back up.
    • I wouldn't mind it if they bring him in cheap for competition. I would imagine he would vie for the 3rd TE spot with the rookie.
