5th Annual Predict the Panthers record - game by game version 2014

Happy Panther

Recommended Posts

My predictions and then some side notes to the season to come.

Panthers at Home 8-0: W-Lions; W-Steelers; W-Bears; W-Seahawks; W-Saints; W-Falcons; W-Bucs; W-Browns

Panthers on Road 5-3: W-Bucs; W-Ravens; L-Bengals; W-Packers; L-Eagles; W-Vikings; L-Saints; W-Falcons

Division Record: 5-1

Overall: 13-3

Offensive 20+ point games: 13(11 in 2013)

** Seahawks, Cardinals, 49ers, and Saints were the only teams to hold the Panthers below 20 points last season.

Defensive 20+ point games: 4 (6 in 2013)

There are only 2 defenses on the Panthers schedule that can limit the Panthers offense. Seahawks and Bengals. So, even though the Panthers offense may be a little above average compared to the rest of the NFL, they play below average defenses and weak red zone defenses for most of the season.

Did you know 8 of the 13 teams we play this season all ranked in the bottom 9 of the NFL in red zone defense? No significant defensive changes on any of those teams.

The Eagles, Bucs, Lions, Bengals, and Seahawks are the only defenses that I am worried about in the red zone.

Of those teams, the Eagles and Bucs while good in the red zone allow teams in the red zone 3+ times per game.

The Lions have Jim Caldwell as HC and a new DC, so I expect their defense to turn to poo.

I expect 2-3 games where the Panthers have trouble getting into the red zone and putting up 20+ points.

I see blow-out losses for the Panthers in the Bengals and @Saints game.

Wow, talk about fantasy football! 13-3 lmao.  I sure hope you are right. I see most every defense limiting the Panthers offence.  In fact the Panthers offense limits the Panthers offense. Our defense is going to have play lights out every game for the Panthers to even get a shot at .500 season. I don't see it happening.

I count around 7 games that were last second wins/losses. I think we took 5 of those while losing thrillers to the Bills and Seahawks.

We are either going to improve our offense to the point where we aren't in that situation so much or continue to win most of these close games. (if we want another playoff appearance)

7-9....ugh....bad enough to miss the playoffs and good enough to not have a top 10 pick.

Predicted record - 7-9

We are very well on track for our usual slow and awful Ron Rivera start this season. Tampa is very much improved and we absolutely will not sweep them two years running. Cam very likely will not play the first game and if he does he's hurt. We DO know that Cam isn't even practicing for a while and won't play a bit in the final preseason game, so any chance to improve his already bad chemistry with his new wide receivers isn't going to happen any time soon. Our running game is still absolute crap and our offense will be even worse than it was last year. As will our defense. Our front 7 will still be very good. But our back 4 is looking to be pretty awful and we are playing a lot of offense's with good WR's and qbs that can and will air it out against us. Stafford and Calvin Johnson should have a field day against us.

9-7 with a rough midseason stretch where we lose 5 of 6 games. We get the back-to-back winning seasons monkey off our backs, but not sure if 9-7 is enough for a Wild Card in the tough NFC.

6-10....not going to be a pretty season in my opinion.  O-Line is weak, Cam could get hurt again.  We caught lightning in a bottle last year, not going to strike again.  Hope I'm wrong.

Ruin our season, then ruin our draft pick. Been a fan too long to expect anything more or less.

    • I have more faith in XL improving than I do in Tmac being a true number 1 recuever
    • Round 1. TMac arguably the best WR in the draft Round 2. Scour ton mentioned as a possible 1st round edge.     Texas A&M did not use him the same way Purdue did. After the 2023 season he was listed as a first round grade. I believe had Texas A&M used him like they did at Purdue he never makes it out of round 1. Round 3 Princely Umanmielen, we'll go by Princely.  Another highly graded player we got in a lower round. As the video suggests, even if he plays only on passing down it's a positive. Give him a couple of years to develop a he could be a three down player.  Round 4a Etienne IMO a huge upgrade over Blackshear. I can see him in a similar role as CMC without the heavy workload. He can run in between the tackles and has some shifty moves. Give Canales some flexibility. A fellow huddler pointed out UGA running backs don't see the field if they cannot pick up the blitz. Really good pick. Round 4b Ransom a hard hitting safety that has played three different positions on defense. Great pick Round 5a Cam Jackson a massive NT in round 5. I believe a solid rotational pick in a lower round. We added a beast that could make offenses quiver when he's lined up with Brown. Great Value  Round 5b Evans This is another player that can block and has good hands. He also had better seasons before 2024. As a rookie he's probably leaps and bounds better than Ian Thomas. I think he gives us a three headed monster at TE.  Round 6 Horn Jr. Many believe he's just going to be a KR/PR player. I believe there are going to be packages for him to get on the field as a WR. His speed with TMac and Thielen in the slot could be special. I'm really looking forward to seeing him in training camp. I've watched some film and he is very explosive.  Overall I love our picks. I honestly believe all of them will contribute this season. I don't believe we reached on one player in this draft.  This weekend we get a small look at these rookies
