Surgeon describes how Cam Newton's injury affects athletes

The rib problem can be taken care of with a pain killing injection. The ankle worries me. Cam looked slower to me this pre-season than I've ever seen him. That's a problem because we're going to run the read option a lot against the Bucs imo.

I wouldn't say slow, just indecisive because he didn't want to be running

So, given that this is now officially game week, when is the deadline for the first injury report? I'm curious if cam will be a full participant or will show up with the typical "questionable" label. If nothing other than to screw with the bucs.

This guy is speaking as if Newton hasn't done anything on the ankle at all leading up to the game. Has he had the surgery himself?

That's my feeling, plus we have to remember Cam played in two preseason games, essentially real game conditions, two weeks ago, and still has this week left until game time. Once he is cleared to run the healing process really gets moving towards 100%. I'd tend to believe being on restrictive motion doesn't do a whole lot for your strengthening of the ankle for NFL use after all that time off it. The real question left isn't really so much if he is fully back from the surgery, but did the surgery work?
