I can't imagine moving forward without some type of offensive changes; what do you think happens?

This thread is laughable. If you think Chandler can play LT better than Bell I don't know what to say because he has been getting beat like a drum for three weeks now. Bell might be hurt so we might see changes but benching players is not the answer. How you could single out anyone on that line last night is beyond me. All 5 of them were inept. The Tackles have the hardest job vs the 3-4 defense. The guards have it easiest, but non of them had an even average game.

Historically it feels like our offense struggles against the 3-4 defense. The biggest thing I can suggest is get everyone on the same page.

I think they may try some shifting around the uglies this week in practice but I don't know.  I just think something has to be figured out but not over reactionary.

Maybe rotate Garry/Chandler at LT and put Bell back at RT.  I still think that makes more sense for all of them.  Play Velasco more at RG and reduce Turner's role for just a bit.  Amini and Kalil can rebound.

I'd also would like to see Brandon ahead of Brockel in that TE3/ST role.  Richie makes a lot of mistakes that go unseen imo.

What do you think?

Unfortunately I'm not sure if there is much we can do this year personnel wise strictly because of the cap.  There are some things we can do schematically to improve however:

1) We need to get the ball out of Cam's hands quickly.

2) We need to return to some traditional power run formations (i form, power I).  It's hard for an rb to get a head of steam going when they're being handed the ball out of a shotgun.

3)  We need to incorporate more of an up tempo/ hurry up game to exhaust bigger defenses and force confusion in the opposing secondary.

Back to getting the ball out of Cam's hands quickly.  We had several promising plays nullified by holding penalties, this can be cured if we're going to 3 step drops as opposed to 5 and 7 step drops.  Also while Cam is injured he appears to be a sitting duck in a shotgun formation.  I would like to see him take more snaps under center.  This will help our running game out and make it easier for Cam to step up into the pocket.

THE FUTURE:

Dave Gettleman said that it was a two year process. With Hardy coming off the books next year and the possible release of DWill coming up we should have a bit more flexibility in resolving the issues.  If anything the Pittsburgh loss should highlight some of our needs going forward in next year's draft.  Tackle should be at the top of the list, followed by a RB, then a WR(speed guy/PR), then yet another DE (with Hardy gone.)

DEFENSE:

The old adage of "it's never as good or as bad as you think it is" seems to be true with our defense.  Our LBs, as fast and and great as they are, do have a glaring weakness (TD excluded).  They can be manhandled physically.  For as much praise as Kuechly gets and rightfully so, Thomas Davis is our best LB.  When ever I see an opposing Olinemen get to the second level and get his hands on Kuechly I know he's finished.  Kuechly quite frankly needs to get bigger to avoid getting physically beaten.  He's the best in the league if he's kept clean, but if he's not he's toast.  AJ Klein is just simply to small to be anything more then a rotational player at this point.  I wouldn't be surprised to see Carolina go after yet another LB next year.  Preferably one that's bigger and geared to shredding the run.

DL:  While it's easy to look at the game last night and think the DL was the problem it really wasn't the case.  Kuechly had a bad game.  He didn't make the proper gap adjustments.  Kuechly was freed up most of the game but because of the patience of Bell, to often he chose to rush the wrong gap resulting in the long run plays.  Also Klein just got physically manhandled the entire game. Blackburn because of his physical stature probably would have been better off seeing most of the snaps against a power running Steelers team.

Throughout the course of this year the D has been playing in the nickel as much as possible, even on running downs because we've been trying to protect the secondary.  This came back to bite us.  If we're so fearful of getting burned deep that we refuse to put 8 in the box against a power running team then we have a big time problem if we get into the playoffs.  At some point we're going to have to trust our corner backs so we can stop the run with three linebackers.

Anyway just my thoughts.

Keep pounding.

Let's get one thing straight here, our offense IS NOT supposed to win us games. If our d played like it normally does/was supposed to we would've won that game with 19 points. Cam and the receivers did their job. Oline sucked more then usually. Brown had one mistake, a big one, but again if our d showed up it wouldn'tve mattered. Kalil also sucked which surprised me. It was just one of those games. I hope no one thought we were gonna be undefeated this season. Cam is still playing injured too

OMG somebody gets it! We spent nearly ALL of our resources on Defense. THIS offense is NOT supposed to be winning us games. They are SUPPOSED to take care of the ball and not put the defense in bad situations.

People sit here ALL summer and look at DG dump resource after resource into the defense...gut an already mediocre offense and then come September complain about Cam not putting up 30 points and not being able to get into shoot outs with Brees.

HELLO. It is not Cam's job to score 30 points or create explosive plays.

If you wanted that you should have gotten on the Panther's FO about getting Cam weapons (other than like the 8th WR/TE taken in this past draft)

People on this board is delusional!

And the thing is, out offense isn't even that bad. Once we start running the option it will be more explosive and people will have to account for healthy cams running ability. Benjamin is making crazy catches every week too, but he needs to work on the drops.

The salary cap is split pretty much even among the offense and defense.
