Ravens LT Eugene Monroe OUT after Knee Surgery

The Ravens are going to need to find a new left tackle for the next few weeks.

Coach John Harbaugh announced Wednesday that Eugene Monroe had a minor surgical procedure on his knee. Harbaugh didn’t outline a specific time that Monroe will miss, but he is going to be out “some number of weeks” as he works his way back to health.

Harbaugh said, via Luke Jones of WNST, that James Hurst is the next man up on the depth chart, but the Ravens could opt to move in a few different directions. Left guard Kelechi Osemele has experience playing tackle, as does Jah Reid, and the team has Geno Gradkowski on the bench to step in at guard should they decide to do extra shuffling.

Whatever they do at left tackle, they’re probably going to have to change some blocking schemes to ensure Joe Flacco isn’t getting hit too often. That will be particularly necessary against a strong Panthers front four this weekend, especially as the Ravens also try to move forward without Dennis Pitta serving as a reliable target for the quarterback.

Hurst is a rookie who broke his leg in late Dec 2013 in UNC's bowl game.

With the line being shuffled and no Pitta, If the Panthers can contain Smitty, should have a good chance to come away with a win in Baltimore.

They were a bit of a mess last season, but I believe that's because Kalechi Osemele, one of their best lineman, was dealing with a back injury/issue last season that seems to be fully healed now. The line has looked good this season, but obviously now we'll see how well they fare without their LT.

This is setting up for the PERFECT STORM.

Lots of people on the huddle (myself included, NCSU fans included) wanted the Panthers to draft Hurst as high as the 4th round. When he went undrafted - we wanted the Panthers to sign him immediately. From all accounts, the Panthers showed ZERO interest in the former UNC OT.

Going to be very, very interesting to see how he plays against us. Could be another one of those SMFH moments if he has a big game and a strike on Dollar Tree Dave.

    • He had a turnover on all three goals he was on the ice for. Plus he had that god awful delay of game penalty. Like legit his GS actually shows he was the cause of the loss and he was only on the ice for 12 minutes. You remove him from that game and the Canes win or at worst go to OT.  Let's put this in perspective, in 12 minutes he directly led to 3 goals against. In the 48 minutes without him on the ice it was an even-steven 2-2 game and that's disregarding that god awful delay of game penalty that led to goal number 4 of the 5 given up.      I don't see how anyone could say that he didn't directly lead to the loss.
    • reality is the piling on of Frank Reich is just the standard huddle angle we take of putting all blame on someone after the fact.   as I was an OG Frank hater before it was cool to be......now the swing goes too far the other way and people will claim me is as a Frank defender.  Frank Reich was the definition of a .500 middle of the road NFL coach.  He technically was a winning coach and above .500 coming here but he is and was NFL average.  we were the biggest joke in a decade.....because they paired Frank Reich (a dude who was going to do what he does in the NFL) with a dude who couldn't do NFL basics and Frank was forced to play him.  That's not Frank being a loser.  That a bad org around Frank.
    • Toronto is less physical than us, and they took them to 7  I really wish they would have won, because we match up better with them, but we have to deal with what we got  What worries me is Svech trying to take out Bob, that is desperation, that's what you do when you feel like there is no legit options left, it's what I feared, Bob is still in our core groups head, and they are over thinking, over passing Hopefully that changes tonight
