Why are there so many threads on Cam and the offense when our Defense is playing so bad?

I dont understand the point of still trying to be a ball control offense WHEN YOUR DOWN THREE DAMN SCORES.

Coaches get fired off that type of bull poo.

Yeah. When we came out and ran the ball twice in a row - with Darrin Reaves - after going down three scores, I kinds gave up on the game.

Our offense has shown signs and glimpses of being able to score like that TD that benjamin should of had today. But the way our defense is playing, gives me no hope that this team can be competitive with the panthers schedule coming up. This team's main issue right now is defense not offense.

Disagree. With the illegal contact rules, ticky tac defensive fouls, etc, have to be able to score, you have to be able to participate in a back and forth shootout. Our offense looked slow, hungover, lethargic, and in my opinion has taken on the mannerisms of its personnel. It's that disposition, not the quality of play today that concerns me.

So then blame ur coaches who keeps sticking to the same script as if they lives depended on it regardless of the situation.

Also, each side has a responsibility. The defense allowed the opposing team to score 38 points. What, u seriously believe Cam with that O-line should have been scoring 42?

i believe 10 pts is worth two drives and punts aren't... so how many times did we drive the field? defense sustain you... OFFENSE scores the points...do you remember when our defense used to keep us in the game while the offense did what it is doing right now? those seasons started as 0-2, 1-2, and so on...oline must be addressed because without them we can't run and and eventually can't pass once rbs are out of the picture as it stands now, and they'll allow crucial hits on our backs and qb which is already the issue. slow receivers expose their skill too. that's why Cam is at risk nearly every play.

I don't get it. Our defense is playing as bad as it has played in about two years for two straight games yet people can't stop talking about benching Cam. News flash but we won't be winning many games even if we could keep Cam up right if the defense keeps being teared apart like a tissue.

I told everyone during the summer that this is EXACTLY what would happen. The Huddle day after day would try to justify GM stance as it related to our offense and the spending of resources. I said, come September when he can't score 14 points, you will be complaining about Cam and the offense forgetting that you SUPPORTED GM sinking a large portion of our salary cap into the defense, yet again using a high round pick on the DLine, and either cutting or failing to replace members of an already mediocre WR and Oline core.

I said during the draft while they cheered as the FO yet AGAIN spent a majority of our picks on defense that by the end of September the SAME people will be complaining and asking why our offense cannot put up double digits.

Look-

Are defense is going to continue to look like feces until our offense starts to sustain drives and turn it into points. I could give a rats behind if we are winning the TOP battle, that dosent mean a damn thing unless we turn that into a Touchdown, not a field goal, not just winning field position, a Touchdown!!!! The defense right now has all the pressure on them to keep us in the game, and even great, historic defenses arent going to hold teams to zero points every game. Plain and simple, our offense (particularly our o-line) has to have success and score points to take pressure off of  our defense and special teams. You have to score to win the game

Sorry. But that is not their problem. You want an offense that sustains drives and score points? Go out and PUT RESOURCES into that offense.

I repeat, what in recent memory has the Panthers done to meaningful upgrade their offense?

The Jags, in one draft, ATTEMPTED to more for their offense than the Panthers have done in 5 years.

I totally agree with you. But as I said, most of the problem isn't necessarily the defense. The offense is just as bad right now.

BEcause the O has always been lackluster.

And because the D outside of two games have been dominant.

Benefit of doubt ring a bell?

    • The bottom line is we saw long stretches this season where T-Mac wasn't even targeted.  He had games where he went an entire half without seeing a pass thrown his way, and it lead to a bunch of games with 5 or less targets.  If he's healthy and we're not up a stupid amount and only running the ball, I can't see him having more than a game or two next year with 5 or less targets. We were also only 22nd this year in pass attempts, and that was with a rookie #1 and no legitimate 2nd option for half the season.  And even then, we were only 46 pass attempts above 31st place. If we go into next season with T-Mac improved in his 2nd season and a healthy Coker for 17 games, there is absolutely no reason for us to not throw it more.  That right away increases both of their target totals without sacrificing any targets from each other or other players, add in them taking targets from the TEs and RBs on top of that, and your argument just doesn't hold water anymore. You can't look at targets/yards in a vacuum and think next year Coker just takes some from T-Mac.  You have to look at the team as a whole and our situations this year and then project what will happen next year. If he's healthy for 17 games, I'd bet my life savings that T-Mac sees increases across the board, targets/catches/yards/TDs.   Just as Coker will also see career highs in all categories, it's not one vs the other, it's shifting offensive strategy given our personnel, which next year will be much better for our passing game (QB issues aside).
    • C'mon now.... First, you can't switch up your argument once someone points out a major flaw in your point. You're saying we shouldn't expect a big increase in targets/yards for T-Mac, but then shift to talking about averages with Chase when I point out the significant leap he took there once you factor in his missing games.  He saw an increase in targets in 5 less games, averages aside, he saw a significant increase in targets in his 2nd season, what he then did with those targets is actually irrelevant in this discussion. Puka seeing no increase is pointless, as he saw such an absurd amount of targets for a rookie, it's near impossible to see an increase. But the real issue in this post is that you think I'm proving your point by showing how Waddle had to share targets with Hill. Tyreek Hill was a 1st team All Pro who was 2nd in the NFL in yards that season. If you think Jaylen Waddle sharing targets with a 1st team All Pro and a future HOFer is even remotely in the same category as T-Mac needing to share targets with Coker... then you are certifiably insane, lol. If anything, you could make the argument that Coker is to Waddle as T-Mac is to Hill in that discussion (which would then lead to a serious increase in targets/yards for T-Mac).  But even that is insane, as neither T-Mac or Coker will be as good as Hill and Waddle respectively that season.  I love both of their potential, but c'mon now, T-Mac isn't getting 119 catches for 1,700 yards and Coker isn't getting 117 for 1,350 next season.
