For my own amusement....

IMO, the most trusted coach that can get an O-line going is Rick Dennison.  Coached Elway/T-Davis' o-line, helped design the Broncos playbook, made Matt Schaub look legit behind a strong Texans o-line, and now is helping Flacco and the Ravens get back on track.   Plus..a former linebacker, math teacher, and civil engineer.  He's the ideal OC imo, not a guy that can be a HC though.

It's definitely far from ideal right now.

Part of me wonders whether Shula would be more comfortable running an Earhardt-Perkins type system rather than a pure Coryell.

I would think so.  He's just not, maybe the right word is daring, enough?

Personally, I would like an OC than can change a gameplan on a dime, Shula is not that person.  With our team, and our D right now, it's either feast or famine, and the O can't just remain static.

Gary Kubiak is the play caller in Baltimore, and was the guy who called the plays in Denver during the two super bowl wins.

I, personally, love the zone scheme. Imagine Cam on a naked bootleg, after a stretch play action, with his drop off option being Olsen running free down the seam.

Some of you are suggesting we fire Shula ASAP! Personally I think that's dumb, while I'm not the biggest Shula fan, Cam seems to have faith in him and so does the organization, so that's enough for me for the time being! I'd also like to see what could happen if we actually had a decent offensive line but that's neither here nor there, soooo here's my question to you Shula bashers...who do you want to replace him with and why? In your perfect little world whose system do you want? Please elaborate on your choice

It's honestly hard to answer that question. I've been so dumbfounded on how we move the ball so well between the 20s, and then look pathetic trying to pick up 3rd and shorts and TDs in the red zone. Not just this season, but the last 3. I personally want Cam to have the ball in his hands as many times as possible. I'd like to see a system similar to Indy's that lets him air it out and pick up the tempo a little bit.

I generally tend to side with our franchise QB in these circumstances and like I said he's never had what I considered to be an above average oline don't get me wrong man I'm not a Shula supporter but I'm never for firing someone mid season! That's asking to tank, I have my own replacement in mind if that situation where to ever arise but till then I'm just curious as who people think could do a better job implementing a new system 4 games into the season....

What else is Cam supposed to say?

Honestly; Newton, just appears like a good Company Man.

Plus, if Cam ever/even hinted at negative comments regarding Shula, the media would roast him on  BOA sized Blitzkrieg, Bonfire 24/7 for days.

Honestly, I would like to give Shula a chance. It should be easier to scheme your current players, than to acquire new ones, or an OC. So I would like to see him do well, at least for the remainder of the year, if possible.

The questions is; if Shula hasn't proved to be able to do any of this (scheme well; call good plays), it just means he's average at best. Anyone can make something work when everything's clicking, and everyone is healthy. The good ones, overcome adversity, or at least show success over similar level teams at home.

Saying all that. John Ramsdell, who's already on staff, could be an easy transition. And Hugh Jackson, of Cincy, could have been better choice from the get go. But Rivera didn't want him. And don't tell me "but Cam liked Shula". Maybe? But who's the better coordinator, has a better track record? That should be who you pick.

Agreed. Shula hasn't figured out yet, if you're OL has less time to pass block, learn to scheme.

To give the ball to those awful backs during the 1st qtr/first possession, and later in the third qtr down 21, instead of going for the endzone and throwing the ball was head pounding to say the least.

The pass game, is actually the strong unit of this team. Yes, the OL's not perfect pass blocking. But so far, they do it much better than their run blocking (whether they're not good at it, and/or the RB's stink).

Once the Panthers get the pass game going, then they can run draws, and all that silly stuff Shula tries when he shouldn't.

Yep. Our main weapons on offense are Cam, Kelvin, and Olsen, so why not utilize all of them in a pass first offense. That will, in turn, open up our running game. Long gone are the days where we were a power running team. So instead of running it to open up the passing game, we should pass it to open up our running game. We need to play to our strengths, which is another reason I dislike SHula so much. He never makes adjustments. He sticks to his philsophy and never switches up no matter the circumstances (see last week). Also, I think Philly and Kelvin would absolutely flourish in a Coryell offense. Still need a couple more pieces to make it work, but I would love to hire somebody that runs this system. We have a beast QB, we need to showcase him.

You think Shula and Rivera can even fathom PLAYING TO THEIR STRENGTHS, instead of their intended/wanted philosophy? :startle:

Absolutely. I was kind of hinting towards that. Of course it won't happen this year since it takes time to get familiar with the offense, but I would love to give Ramsdell a shot at OC. That's why I think he was brought in. Throw in bits of the Coryell offense every here and there throughout the season, let Ramsdell get familiar with the players, and then replace Shula after the year. Maybe I'm reading too much into it, but I wouldn't mind that one bit.

That move would have to be done by GMAN (or at least convince Rivera to do it), cause I don't think Ron Ron has the Cajones to!?

Exactly. Most teams run the ball when they need to. We run the ball just for the sake of having an even run/pass play selection. Early in games we are so good at "establishing the run" with our 10 carries for 12 yards.

Fug that let Cam get the wheels rolling, score some damn points, and let the defense feed off the momentum.
