Shula, take note

My counter-argument is simply this...

As fans we think we know as much or more about this game than people who have demonstrated a superior knowledge.  When you count all of the high school coaches, and all of the college coaches, and all of the assistant and position coaches, then you have to acknowledge that to get to the point of being an OC or DC in the NFL puts you amongst the top 1% of all of the football coaches in the world.

For us bunch of dilettantes to call a man stupid is in fact stupid.

Was he out coached?

Maybe but stupid he is not...

What about Nepotism; Cronyism, and just plain failure over the years?

You can't pass if you don't have protection.  You can sustain drives if you fumble.  Other than the bomb on 3rd and 3.  Not sure what the Shula hate is going to focus on this week.

You can however use a short quick passing game to negate blitzing which will hide some offensive line deficiancies.  I agree with the OP, in the second half, we did a great job of utilizing our passing game and cams accuracy to open up some lanes for Reaves to run through.  For the first time possibly all season, I saw a time where we weren't getting 7-8 guys stacking the box and pounding our line...we EVEN had a screen to a player that wasn't a tight end that worked very well.

Shula is, or will be a bad coordinator, if he keep running first with this group of Grade D backs.

Many of us keep saying this. But the WR's and TE's, are the strength of this team, not the backs; even when healthy.

Shula's, gotta find a way to get the ball to his receivers and TE's, then mix it up with his Walmart stable of backs (not vice versa).

They can worry about playing The Shula, Rivera way, later in the year when the team gets healthy.

The uptempo approach has worked week in and week out... I really hope he learns from that more than anything.

Or its worked because we use it part time, so teams don't spend as much time preparing for it.  If we did it all the time, might not be as successful.  In fact, I would say its likely it won't be as successful.

You would be amazed out how much better OCs around the league would be if they could see how the plays worked out first before callong them instead of having to call them within 10 seconds of previous play.

Fans are great at knowing what plays should have been called after the play has already happened.

Wins and losses. The one that counts the most.

Did not really help us in the game that mattered the most last year did it. Oh that's right only things that prove yourself right matter. Our winning record was because of our defense giving our offense good field position and great turnovers. Winning is great but it would be nice to have a better OC so we didnt have to always rely on our defense.

You say that you don't want rely on the defense, but that's exactly what Rivera wants to do which should explain some of the offensive playcalling.

    • It is a tough decision.  There is another factor.  Is he in game shape?  A tired Hunt is not better than an "in-shape" Corbett.  When coming off an injury, it is natural to want to protect the injured area, even if it is completely healed.  This can cause you to contort your body for no reason, lose fundamentals, and it could lead to other injuries.  For example, I had a knee in high school that required getting taped.  That made me aware of the knee (not used to tape on my knee) and I pulled my groin (favoring or dragging the leg with the tape).  The trainer explained the groin injury the way I do here--but scared money makes no money.  If he is cleared to play, he is cleared to play.  Watch him, rotate him in for a series, etc.  Specifically, I would want to watch the matchup--who is winning more--Corbett or Hunt?  How is the defense reacting (if at all) to Hunt being in?  Etc.
    • Shannon was sued for $50 million (settled out of court, I believe) for forcing sex on his girlfriend during a two-year relationship.  He denies it, but ESPN let him go last April.  Chad Johnson's wife filed a police report because he head-butted her in a car and was put on probation. I had to google it.  I watched the Ray Rice video and when you see it, you realize just how vile and cowardly abusing a woman really is.  But for the same point Aussie tried to make, these women are defenseless, and being phyiscally bigger and stronger does not validate your actions.   I can't even stand to watch Steve Smith.  I can't normalize this kind of behavior--again, I do not think R-P had that in mind when he posted this.  When the reason was exposed, we should realize that we are talking life (quality of) and death (in some cases) here.
    • I can respect the fact that we should not glorify or normalize men who have a history of beating women.  I do not think anyone was thinking of that when they posted this, but if head-butting your wife and unconsensual sex (rape) is something you cannot overlook, I agree with that.  I think they are both half-crazed attention hounds regardless of their pasts.
