Hardy not coming back after 6 games

Captain Morgan

Exactly. We get to pay $13 million to a player who isn't allowed to play, so as to protect the image of Roger Gordell.

Seems to me the player should have to eat the salary. No easy answer here but it seems absurd that the Panthers have to pay a player who is suspended per team/league rules.

So you would pay 5 million dollars to confess to a crime you didn't commit? Lol ok.

If it meant the difference between signing a 5 year 30mil contract vs a 5 year 60mil contract, yes. Especially when there is a significant chance you get hammered with a guilty verdict anyways.

His trail could very really not only go on through the end of this season but the next. What's wrong with just taking the hit and putting it behind you. If he sees this whole thing through and still is found guilty it could mean his career. People plead guilty to crimes they didn't commit all the time to minimize potential damage. It's messed up but it's a messed up system and Greg is playing the game.

I mean really the only person to blame here is Hardy's lawyer. You put your client which is up for domestic violence in front of a female judge, which is up for re-election and has a ton of convictions under her term and expect things to go your way? He set Hardy up for failure. Could have just walked, got a more favorable judge/DA at a later date.

How is the NFLPA allowing this precedent to be set? The NFL could use this case to show that they have the authority to sit any player who has a pending legal case until that case is fully resolved - then likely tack on additional punishment if the player is found guilty. If not guilty? Probably not even as much as an apologym

I'm surprised that the NFLPA hasn't done something although it helps that he is getting paid. The only damage he is suffering is not playing.

As for the authority it is governed by the CBA and I think he has carte blanche to do what he wants.

This is so fluid I don't know what is going on day to day...

Yea but it is a huge gamble that he he gets acquitted at trial.

If he's found guilty he is going to be suspended 6 weeks without pay anyways. He would be a free agent with a 6 week suspension hanging over his head, and wouldn't have played a game in almost a year. This would crush his market value and end up costing him so much more money in the long run.

Personally I think he would be better off taking a pay hit upfront. That would give him 10 games this season to put up big stats, build his market value, prove he can preform through distraction, and position himself to get a big long term contract.

Sticking with the appeal is being penny wise and dollar stupid. It's probably of Rosenhaus protecting his own greedy interest and Greg being stupid enough to go along with it.

Have you ever heard the saying "a bird in the hand beats two in the bush"?

By the time his trial happens he will have already been inactive and away from the team for that number of games or more.

Why would they not just fine him the pay for 6 games and let him begin playing?

If he gets suspended 6 games without pay on top of already having been deactivated multiple games and basically getting told to stay away from the team because the media will shriek like a bunch of children otherwise, that seems a little too much like being punished twice.

I can't agree with this sceniro. This sounds good but what if he would get injured in the first game or second game back? He would be out of the money he would have made in  6 games and still not proved anything. This,in my opinion, would have been to big of a gamble,so why not take the full amount of game money and hope you are found (and i believe he will be)  not guily, thereby losing nothing.

Serious question, couldn't Hardy drop the appeal and take the guilty conviction?

If this is the case he could make a good case for time served as the 6 game automatic suspension, give up six six game checks, and be playing in a week and a half against Seattle.

He'd also face a civil suit risk as well.

That might be a possibility, and maybe that's why he has stayed away from the team and facilities even though he has the option to be around. Maybe if he was around the league could argue that he hadn't served his proper time away from the team and tack on the 6 game suspension.

I can't believe somebody here is actually suggesting that pleading guilty to domestic violence is "best" for Hardy's career.

Probably too late now, but in his situation the best thing to do was take the 6 games and sit and come back and ball out. People forgive and forget. You don't want this poo lingering around when you hit free agency. Now you put your long term fare and paycheck in the hand of jurors when the world already thinks you're guilty.

If he had plead guilty right off the bat he would have gotten his punishment before the latest Ray Rice video came out and the Peterson thing happened. Probably would have been a 2 game suspension. Now he's going to miss the entire season, even if he's found not guilty, which is fuging ridiculous.
