I received quite a few "life skills" during my time in the military and often I'll reflect back to those days to search for applicable parallels.  In doing this and getting my huddle fix 59 times a day I found something that I wanted to share.

 

We had been deployed to Thumrait Oman during Operation Southern Watch and we had this young "LT" that everyone liked, he was personable and knew how to motivate all of us.  We always knew we could go to him, we knew or we thought we knew that he would be there for us no matter what.  If any of you huddlers spent any amount of time in the middle east you know that there are LOOOONGGG periods of mind numbing boredom.  On one occasion a young guy wanted a drink and wanted a drink bad (drinking is forbidden in Muslim countries therefore not accessible at this time) He made some homemade wine.  I was in my tent with some buddies and he came running in exclaiming "Guys, it's ready"

 

We went to his tent and we got SMASHED.. The time away from our families, the drama that exist in the middle east, the fear all of it for just that moment all went away.  We felt like we were "back home"  We were kids, and perhaps the decision to do this fell in line to our decision making process.  Long story short, we got found out.  Our LT had a choice to make.. Keep in in house, require us to complete some mundane penance for our sins and call it a day.. Or.... Send it up the chain.. Our LT sent it up the chain and because our country is so politically correct and not wanting to offend the Muslim countries, this kid was dishonorably discharged and and was sent home.. Those of us that participated  received Article 15's and reduction in rank.

 

 

After this happened, we cared nothing about this young LT trying to make his bones.  We did our jobs for each other but every chance we got we tried to make this LT's life a living hell and it worked.. This LT was transferred out, and a few years later he left the military.  We stopped working for him, we stopped caring and we did our jobs and protected each other but that's where it ended.

 

 

I know this is long thank you for reading but I do believe this is what has happened to our team.  RR, DG didn't fight for one of our soldiers, they hung him out to dry, they left him on his own, for good or bad, they bowed to the god that is PR and PC.  I believe RR has lost this team, I believe the players stopped playing for him.  It's only my opinion, do not flame me for it.. Love all of you..

I totally agree with you and I do believe it has had some effect on the team.

 

at the news conference about Hardy going on the Exempt list, a reporter asked Gettleman if the team was gonna get Hardy any counseling (like anger management) Gettleman replied "anything like that was on Hardy not the team".

 

If you care about your players well being, You would help with any counseling a player may need for the betterment of the team.

 

I made a comment to my GF about that statement, but looking back that could have been the straw that broke the camel's back

I agree. Along with the steve smith thing. Which was supposedly to help locker room morale. That and hardy's case have def led to the players losing faith in their coach. We lost the attitude we had from guys like smith, hardy, mitchell. That was a big part of our success

i am not yet sold on the concept that the players have given up on this front office. my hopes and love for this team and for the superstars that play on it wont allow me to accept that just yet. the problem with turning on leadership like that is when the leadership changes, often the key pieces get changed and move elsewhere too. you might be right. i am not saying youre wrong. i just cant bear the thought of losing players like Cam, Keek, TD, KK, Stewart, etc to retirement or free agency during a "changing of the guard"... there is alot of evidence that the players have turned on the FO. but i want to see how the rest of the season plays out before i decide that the team is no longer allied to the leadership

Who has given up on this team? What players specifically? Can you point us  to a number of snaps where this is provable? Im pretty confident that if were to go snap by snap no one here would be able to prove any one guy is not playing hard. Its not about effort it's about talent. We have about four guys on each side of the ball that are above average and sometimes they don't play well either.

I think lost in the mix....is when Josh McCown quit stumbling over his own feet and going full retard....

Go back and look at how our D looked late in that Tampa game WITH Greg in it. McCown actually made us look how we have been looking. People overlooked how we looked late in that game. If there were 5 quarters played.....we would have lost IMO

I said this yesterday (obviously not in the great way you displayed it) but I agree man. They failed to stand up for one of their players. Not once did they mention the NC court process to the media, not once did they say they were going to continue with the original plan, not once did they explain the situation to them, etc. There is no question that this team has quit on the coaching staff. By quit, I mean not showing intensity, passion, focus, etc. because of course the players aren't just going to quit playing. They want to get their pay checks. What I mean is they are just going through the motions now.

Cam is having his best season to date

Olsen is having his best season to date

Luke is having his best statistical season to date

Kelvin is on pace for 1000+ yards and 10 + TDs as a rookie

I don't think anyone quit. I think out front office built a team with NO OL and NO secondary (and a unit dependent on having the most dominant DE play in the NFL in order to work)

I fail to buy that logic people quit. We don't have the talent to survive our holes.

We have the worst OL in the NFL. OL impacts literally everything. See Dallas. OL is why they are good and also why there defense isn't as bad as many thought.

I don't buy it! Even if it were the case, being professional football players is very near being a Soldier in the service. The comaraderie is almost identical tbh. "For those on my left and right I serve"

When they are on the field, they are all that "they" have, much like combat. Even if they have become disallusioned by the FO, they still must play for one another. They have no choice.

I refuse to believe that they have given up on the season or stopped playing hard for or another. The secondary is weak, and we knew that coming into the season. We had a security blanket in our front 7. Now that we are missing Hardy out secondary is the liability we all knew that it would be. The offensive line looks horrid against the 3-4. Those are the glaring weaknesses. It doesn't help that the play calling on offense is putrid at best.

I watched the Broncos game last night, and my take away from it was that it's not hard to send 4 or 5 wife recievers and find at least one guy open. I don't pretend to be an offensive coordinator, and I realize that they have a bonefide WR corps, but Jesus Cristo! Help Cam get some time, run some short routes, mix in some play action!

Our list of things wrong is long. We'll see what we can get fixed come 1 pm on Sunday when we host Seattle

Wait, your group got pissed at your LT for following the orders he was given and upholding the oath he pledged? Not only is your analogy bad, but I have zero respect for those who, because of their own distaste for political or military policies, decide that they are not bound to them or use them as excuses for their own poor judgment.       Brother. You are wholly confusing comparing situations and applying actual standards like most other franchises do like simply getting into a playoff series and winning at least 1 or 2 series games with praising. Nobody is praising the Hawks. Nobody is praising the Magic. Nobody here likes those teams. But reality is reality. The Hawks like other franchises have traded players fired coaches etc but they can still win a couple playoff games. How is that not the bare floor for you or anyone else? What are we doing here if it isn't? We've seen eye to eye on many things over the years. But you are in the camp on the Hornets where you are emotionally attached to LaMelo where you feel the need to carry his water like he's got that juice. That's cool that you feel that way. It's your prerogative. But I differ from that viewpoint entirely. If he had that juice we would not have gotten wiped off the court in 2 play in games with 2 different coaching staffs and rosters. if people don't like hearing that well I'm sorry but how the hell is this team ever going to get better and ultimately go anywhere in the postseason if we just blindly pat them on the back for getting their asses whooped before they actually even get into the real playoffs? There seem to be some Bryce Young level standards being applied here. That's wild to me. But to each his own.

      Proctor/Freeling were always the belles of the ball where we were picking. What those two *could* become at OT was far greater than what others could be at their respective positions and I’m glad our FO could see that.
