NFL Informs Rivera that Kuechly Shouldn't Have Been Ejected and Won't Be Fined

No way. Refs don't get penalized for bad performance. Otherwise, refs wouldn't "push a game one way or the other" for the big machine with fear of getting in trouble. They have nothing to worry about.

Not true in the least. They will get a downgrade for this and are pretty much assured they wont be calling the super bowl.

I've been a fan of full time refs for several years.

No idea why the NFL can't see the advantages.

It was my understanding that the NFL wanted that and tried to negotiate it when the refs went on strike but the refs absolutely would not cave on that issue.

Why would they? If I could make $200K/year at a part time job that would be awesome.

Please cite a source for that.

The NFL hasn't really completely confirmed how they choose refs for big games, but this article helps a bit:

Especially the end about Bolger, and how he hadn't even ref'd a conference game yet.

Also no one can do back to back Superbowls, so the BEST refs aren't getting in there.  You really have small competition to get into a Super Bowl game/play off game because they have more refs in those than a normal game I believe.

But in the end they truly, really don't have anything to be worried about.  When was a ref fired for bad performance?  I don't remember, if they have, please tell me.  They pretty much of a cozy part time job they never have to worry about.
