Bad Hurney Contracts: Who's Left?

Mr. Scot

Recommended Posts

Pretty sure most would agree DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart - even at their best - are overpaid.

Charles Johnson is also looking overpaid this season (seems like he's hurt).

Would you consider Ryan Kalil a bad contract?  Arguably the best center in the league.

Who else is left that got big money from Hurney?  Am I forgetting anyone?

I would say DeAngelo and J-Stew.

I think Chuck was paid fair market value. If we didn't give him that deal, Atlanta would have. I think its obvious he's playing through injury right now.

Kalil isn't a bad contract. His play is suffering from the play of those around him. Not a surprise given every other player around him going forward is either an UDFA, a rookie, or both.

I'm not so sure we keep Johnson going forward.

People have been speculating on when Williams or Stewart (or both) will be jettisoned for years.

I don't know if we can afford to cut him...according to spotrac his dead money hit next year is $14m. At least he's still useful. I think it's more likely he's kept and Hardy walks.

Jon Beason is getting $8 million this year to help another team win the super bowl

Not really:

LB Jon Beason, on @WFAN660, said it's "50-50" on whether he'll have to shut it down four the season. May need surgery on toe.

Beason is currently in Charlotte visiting foot/ankle specialist Dr. Robert Anderson and expects to know about surgery by tomorrow.

    • My take on Darnold was always that he was fine with a good offensive line but would wilt under pressure with a poor line (Jets and Panthers). Seattle began the year w/ a pretty bad oline and they improved somewhat but Darnold is showing he is a pretty good qb. Imagine what the Panthers would be today with Darnold and without Bryce Young and all the wasted draft picks to get him.
    • Similar situation but that would be a better version than what we currently have. Sam isn't a franchise QB but he is a good bridge guy. Either Seatle finds a young guy to groom or they have hit their ceiling. They 100% can't put it on Sam's shoulders and expect to win but the team needs to carry less with him at QB to win vs what this team has to do with Bryce.
    • to me the post would suggest Sam Darnold was good last night because Seattle won in a wild game.   Which is what we do with Bryce Young.   Sam Darnold didn't play well last night.  Which is how he trends, goes to a new team.....looks okay and becomes classic Sam Darnold down the stretch.  Last 6 or 7 weeks old bad Sam is coming out a lot (and then a weird Atlanta game mixed in lol).
