All Time Team

London Loves Luke

Recommended Posts

The Carolina Panthers were founded exactly 21 years and 3 days ago, so to mark this momentous landmark I thought about doing a best ever team.

Rules:

  • Pick any past or current Panther player playing at the peak of their ability
  • Teams should contain all skill players, at least 2 line men from each line and one special teamer.
  • Your choice of nickel, full back, 2/3/4/5 receiver formation
  • Pick a coach to lead your team to the sooperboel
  • Analyse stupid picks and the deficiencies of their makers mercilessly

Here goes:

Coach: John Fox

Offence

Quarterback: Cam Newton

Receiver 1: Smith

Receiver 2: Moose

Receiver 3: Kelvin Benjamin (Closely followed by Michael Bates)

Tight End: Wes Walls

Running Back: Stephen Davis

OL: Jordan Gross

OL: Ryan Kalil

OL: Jeno James

Defence

LB: Luke Keuchly

LB: Sam Mills

LB: Kevin Greene

DL: Julius Peppers

DL: Charles Johnson

DL: Kris Jenkins

DB: Mike Minter

DB: Chris Gamble

DB: Eric Davis

DB: Mike Mitchell

Kicker: John Kasay

Took some time to figure some of these positions out, some (WR, RB) because we have a fair amount of good candidates and some (FS, OL) because I really couldn't think of players who have stood out.

Sorry but theres no way im taking 03 Stephen Davis over 08 D-Will

I am of the opinion 2008 DeAngelo Williams was one of the best running back seasons ever. 1,500+ yards while splitting carries, 20 TDs, and no fumbles. That's unheard of.

QB1: Cam form any year

QB2: Jake Delhomme from '03

RB1: Deangelo from '08

RB2: Stewart from '09

RB3: Tolbert

FB: Hoover

WR1: Smitty

WR2: Muhammad

WR3: Benji... it's sad that he's a rookie and already showing he might be one of our team's better receivers throughout history

TE1: Greg Olsen

TE2: Walls

O-Line. I'll be honest, I didn't know enough about football at the beginning of their existence to give an educated guess at who was good and who wasn't. Here's some I know were good at one point:

Gross

Wharton

Kalil

Whale

Piggy

DE: Peppers

DE: Kraken circa last year

DT: Jenkins

DT: KK from this year

OLB: Beason the year Davis got hurt the first time. He did fine at OLB that year.

MLB: Luke

OLB: Davis

CB: Gamble

CB: Eric Davis

Slot CB: Captain. Sucked on the outside, great inside.

S: Minter

S: Mitchell from last year

K: Kasay

P: Nortman

KR: Bates

PR: Smitty

    • Okay you didn’t propose that the inexperience of the receivers is the reason for the conservative play calling. You didn’t say that, right?  I downplayed the OL characterizations because tnhatvwas sort of a unique situation. One game.  Without looking back through your stuff with AT to really be accurate, you basically claim that his absence is kind of at the root of this receiver weakness. My words.  I will comment on that. 1st overall. Billed as a point guard.  Third year. That third year is big , I mean when so the training wheels come off?  Butcyiuveobg think a guy with  his pedigree should be able to adapt and we are half way through. Not week one or two.    I mean I didn’t try to misrepresent what you said. I am fine with being corrected.  But you are making a lot claims for a Bryce that many people - including the much respected Greg Cosell - have gotten past.  You do know that he is on record twice that J know of, basically saying what I said. What other people say.  You are sort of Bryce’s Don Quixote here it seems to me.  premade excuse whatever typos the phone is small the keys are small.
