Why is Jerry Richardson always sleeping during Panthers games?

It's pretty clear he is looking down at a screen. He didn't appear to be sleeping to me, especially considering that in the one shot where he looked like it he was talking to his wife.

The hate some of y'all have, mixed with frustration, well let's just say it wouldn't take much more than an eloquent speaking leader to turn this place into old Salem or Nazi Germany.

He was looking down at a monitor. Mrs. Richardson reacted to the camera being on them, and waved, after watching what I have to assume is a TV monitor in front of them. He wasn't asleep and his eyes weren't closed ... he was looking down.

I remember that shot in the game.  Richardson spoke to his wife during the shot.

 

I don't get why Richardson gets some much undue hate on this forum.  But even if you want to argue the way he runs this team, he is a 78 year old man who relatively recently had heart surgery and is probably in an extremely poor physical state.  What do people expect him to look like?

 

I saw him recently, and he is not "in an extremely poor physical shape." He's not running any marathons, but he's fine.

Older people on lots of medicine tend to sleep a lot, throughout the entire day.  My grandpa takes naps all the time, they just can't help it.

JR is real old man.  That's why.  He's probably got 5 years left and he's already had a serious heart surgery.  It's in his best interest from a health perspective to not get to emotionally involved in anything.  I don't blame him for the way he reacts.   Some of his decisions on the other hand.....

On of the ladies giving us the stadium tour mentioned this specifically.

She said he has a monitor at his knees watching the coaching view video and listens to all the in game communication between the coaches.

He's not asleep, he's looking at that monitor.

There is a monitor right in front of him where he sits...Ike in the counter/table in front of him so he knows when he is on tv. When they show him he is looking down without moving his head so he looks asleep.
