Greg Cosell talks Cam and the Saints game

Cam's accuracy has been erratic his entire career. He's had some amazing games, he's had some crap games, and he's had several up and down games. That's inconsistent. As a passer that is.

That's why I was excited with his play early in the season. Then he starts running and his passing goes awry. 1 passing TD to three INT over this three game stretch.

you could argue some bad drops kept him from having another TD pass or three.

you could also argue some bad drops(from defenders) have kept him from only having three ints instead of 6 or 7.

Hate to break it to ya sport, but he has had 3 bad games in a row.

Ehhhh.

The Green Bay game we were down 21-0 before the end of the first quarter. This offense is simply not built roster wise right now to come back from that kind of deficit no matter who the QB is. As much as our offense has struggled, we were still in the Seattle game until the end.

Until we are able to get Olsen (you know, Cam's main target...) off blocking, and get him back involved in the passing game, things are not going to get much better. Even with our OL troubles, the right gameplan, and simple adjustments most coaches make could help tremendously.

Manning still completed 59% of his passes and had an 81qb rating in his crappy game. Oh ya he threw for over 400 yards as well. I would love for those to be Cam's crappy games.

Can hasn't had a 300yd passing game since that crappy Arizona game last season. Thats more than one year. Even despite throwing 300yds in that game, he did not throw for a TD but three INT. But yeah, let's compare that to Manning. It's like people only watch panthers football.

i think that's generalizing too much. like it's 50/50.

i dont see it that way.

Thought it was interesting that Cosell said the " drop " by Bersin and " drop " by Benjamin in the end zone was a timing issue.  Just the thing we were concerned about with Cam having all new receivers this year and no chances prior to TC to work with them.

I think that Cosell was absolutely right about the timing issue.  Those passes weren't as accurate as they could have been (but they still could have caught the ball, and maybe should have).

What we must ask ourselves is that degree of inaccuracy worth dumping a QB who can also make plays with his legs that Cam does, and whether or not we believe that that degree of inaccuracy is due to Cam "hearing footsteps" and whether or not the general problem is fixable.

That game did not start 21-0. They scored 7 and gave us the ball, offense did nothing. They scored 14 and gave us the ball, again offense did nothing. Then they scored 21.

I reject your assertion that we can't come back from deficits. View the CHI game this season.

Cam had an awful game.  I don't need to listen to any analysis to understand that.

What I don't get is that everyone wants to pin one awful performance all on Cam and act as if it means anything in the big picture while ignoring the fact that we have no OL what so ever and only one legit WR.  Cotchery and Avant simply cannot create separation.  Most of the catches they have this season have come from Cam squeezing the ball into ridiculously tight windows.  When you're asking a QB whose accuracy is admittedly spotty and who's constantly under pressure to squeeze the ball into ridiculously tight windows, you can't exactly be shocked when the results aren't great.

It should also be noted that one legit WR we have is also tied for first in the league right now for most dropped passes this season.

In terms of passing I think you could easily argue he's had more stinky games than amazing. But the majority of his performances are above average.

Within a single game there are up and down moments. He will look great then just have a wild pitch. But he's never been good at the subtleties. Things like hitting a guy in stride. Putting the ball where only his guy can get it. Making the right read. I felt like he turned the corner early in the season. Maybe there is some truth when Cam said he gets tired from running. Maybe he can't be as accurate when he ran for 20 yards the play before.

I don't think anyone is asking that you move on from him. I think Cam is a competitor and can fix those problems. He just has to work harder.

Basic common sense will tell you that this offense is simply not built to score a touchdown every drive.
