HC Candidates & their potential schemes

Quick note to Beach: You might wanna take a look at the team pages over at Pro football Reference (link).  They list the offensive and defensive systems employed by each team.

They've got ours down as Erhardt-Perkins though (which I suppose I could see, but from everything I know, we actually run a Coryell).

A name no one mentions who could be a home run, is Josh McDaniels.  He has some head coaching experience with the Broncos.  It didn't turn out great, but I will give him some sympathy because the best QB he had to work with was Jay Cutler.  Cutler now has all the weapons in the world in Chicago, and yet he still sucks.  We've seen what McDaniels can do with a good QB.  Perhaps he is what the doctor ordered for Cam.

Tom Brady under McDaniels set season records back in 2007, and of course went perfect in the regular season.  I would say McDaniels only real black mark, is deciding to draft The Golden Calf of Bristol in the first round.  Yet with Gettleman, I doubt anything like that would ever happen here in Carolina.  Mickey D's and Cam could work out very well.  Have Cam throwing those "golden arches".

The guy who said "I'll use my first rounder on Tim Teebow and we'll win a championship"?

No thanks.  His personnel evaluation talent might be worse than Rivera.

No way we ever run a WCO with Cam. He is not accurate enough with his short passes, and he struggles to make quick decions and get rid of the ball quickly. We need an offense like we had in Cams rookie year with Chud. That was the perfect offense for Cam and he tore the league up...

Love when people say stuff like this.

Well, go tell Eli Manning that.

Good Ole Eli, was terrible at short passes most of his career, and way worse than Cam Newton. Nonetheless,  that became Eli's primary throws in 2014. So I wouldn't worry about that way too much.

A few years ago that was probably true.

But last season they went to a more short pass based offense and had way more success than they're having this season.

From a lot of what I've read McDaniels doesn't have the people skills to be a HC. Not a great leader. He'd basically be the flip side of the coin from Rivera who by all accounts is a good leader and good at getting his guys to go all out from him but deficient in the technical side of things. I want a guy who can inspire his guys AND knows how to actually manage a team.

Considering how JR wants to emulate the Steelers, I think he will be more inclined to a 3-4.

We ran a 3-4 for the first several years of the team's existence (under Dom Capers),

Not sure where anybody'd get the notion that the owner cares what defense we run.

This.

There definitely is that weird unspoken assumption around these parts that we must stick to a 4-3.

I can see us switching in these next few years depending on who's our coach.

I'm willing to give him a shot if he can turn this offense into what we saw with the Patriots back in 2007.  Of course Belichick's under study's historically haven't done anything as head coaches.  Yet with as much work and success he's had with Brady, I'm willing to give McDaniels a try with Cam.
