Apartment broken into, need advice

I'm getting ready for work when I thought I heard someone knock on my door which is weIrd because it's 3 am. I start to go back to the bedroom to grab my 1911 when my door is kicked in by some guy.

Long story short the police caught the guy, he was coming home drunk and thought his wife locked him out. I'm waiting on the couch for maintenance to fix the door frame, my girlfriend is terrified because this is so supposed to be a low crime area.

What I need advice on is, what's the best way to assure her this is such a rare thing to happen? And she's agreed to allow more guns in the house, we have no kids and none are ever in our apartment. I don't expect her to fire my 1911 so I need a pistol for her. Right now I would like something she can put in her purse. Also I would like a shotgun that she can use.

You might be surprised by what she can handle. I'm a girl and I shoot a Colt 1911. I think it's easier to fire than many small guns, like my S&W 38 special revolver (supposedly a "woman's gun"). That said, the S&W is my primary CC handgun. I like the reliability of a revolver, you never really have to worry about it jamming up.

 

I have a Browning 12-gauge bolt-action shotgun, but it's a bit too long for me (I inherited it). If I were to purchase a shotgun for home defense, I'd probably select a 20 gauge "youth model" with a shorter stock.

Do you have a dog? That would act as a slight deterrent no matter how small it is.

Do you have window alarms?

How about an exterior light?

Does the apartment complex provide security? Is it a gated complex? Is it intercom entry?

Do you have renters insurance

If you want to calm your Gfs concerns, pull up the area crime statistics from the FBI and show her it was an anomaly.

This same thing happened to me last year in our condo in midtown Atlanta. Drunk guy that lived above us thought he was at his unit and thought his GF had locked him out. Buy some steel reinforcement for your door frame, get an extra deadbolt, and/or buy a door security bar. If you are in a low crime area and it's a just a relatively harmless idiot, fix up your door and call the cops again if his drunk ass repeats this episode. The gun may make you feel safer, but it doesn't seem to be a solution in any way for the issue you've just experienced.

The dog was worthless. I'm doing my best Chuck Liddell impression pummeling this guy and she was hiding behind the couch.

Alarm was off because I was getting ready to leave. And we have window alarms.

They're replacing the wood frame with a steel one. We've had two other times where one of their drunk friends tried to open our door. I'm sure after this they're getting evicted

I got my wife a Mossberg 500 20 ga. pump several years ago. She has no problems with that.

As for her purse or whatever, I'd go .380 compact or maybe even a 9mm depending on how well she can handle one. 9mm ammo is about the easiest ammo to find right now. My wife has a Sig Mosquito but it'll only shoot CCI MiniMags reliably and those are hard as hell to find right now.

      It’ll be interesting to see how the board falls I completely agree with you on TE for us The safety from Oregon would be the cherry on top for Evero’s defense/scheme.  If a OL’men is there that you love it would be very hard to pass up. This fan base seems to just see Walker as a stop gap but I wouldn’t be so sure. He’s the same age as Ekwonu. He’s had a much more impressive career arc/progression than Icky has. He’s the better pass protector. As far as I see it if Walker has a good year I’d bring him back over Icky. Ekwonu isn’t some elite franchise LT. Playing next to Lewis is going to be great for Walker much like it has been for Icky. We definitely need to get younger/cheaper on the OL though so for this reason alone it’s still top of my list come round 1 if board falls this way  Could also use another corner with Mike Jackson’s deal up after this season and needing a nickel but Corey Thornton looked really good in that role in the limited time we got to see him. However he’s coming off an achillies injury and you never know with those.  Then as mentioned above we do still have a need at WR. As far as “weapons” go it’s kind of a 2 man show with Tmac and Coker and neither is a burner. If Jordan Tyson is there at 19 and we can have a young WR group locked up for cheap that’s a huge advantage cap wise  And don’t forget linebacker. That clip in Devin’s Lloyd blueprint they used from Evero saying they need more intelligence there could’ve been left out for Wallace’s sake but it’s true. Wallace is lost in coverage. Pair a smart linebacker with Lloyd and that’s a group with Wallace and Cherelus being depth

      Not always. LT was for the Giants. So was Ray Lewis. Von Miller was moreso than Manning his final year in the season that shall not be named. It's usually the QB, but not always.
