Chris Ogbonnaya Waived Again

This new guy will be 5th on the depth chart. How about a fuging safety that could be 2nd on the depth chart? Or first?

Find me a quality safety that would start that is worth bringing in 11 weeks in the season and I'll agree with you. There is a reason why most FA who are unsigned at week 11 stay that way. Let alone let them learn the system, the play calls, the roles of their spot. It just doesn't make sense. Week 2-4 sure, but not 11 weeks in.

Don Jones, 2nd year safety that is now with the Dolphins (again). The Patriots cut him a few days ago because they have no need at the position and because he was late to meetings, etc. Before that the Dolphins cut him because of a twitter post after Michael Sam was drafted. Very talented player that has some disciplinary issues but is way way way better than what we have.

So bring in a player/try and sign (after he cleared waivers its his choice where he goes) that has had disciplinary problems, late to meetings into a locker room that has had reports of being no great this year?

I know stats aren't everything but he has a a staggering tackle total of 13, and 1 forced fumble. Has registered 0 total starts in two and a half years. I'd rather roll with Colin Jones and what we have then have another project try and learn our playbook with only 5 weeks to go.

Your opinion. If I were coach I'd bring in the most talented players available at each position of need and have them compete. That DT we signed won't be active and will never be a significant player for us because we're so deep at DT. A safety we bring in could turn into a decent player and would be immediately better on the field than what we have.

I would likely say chances are that if he did sign he would have the same odds that the DT would have to produce. We aren't as "deep" on the dline as people say especially on DT since Star is hurt, our starting rotation is Short, Edwards, and Cole. Does that scream high end especially with two of those DTs are over the age of 30? It makes sense to bring that DT up especially since he was on our PS and has learned the system. Will he get a jersey on sunday? Who knows.

    • I have said if you out even an average QB into the offense we are averaging 25+ points a game. But that will never happen with Bryce under center.
    • The defense is 28 out of 32 in salary cap allocation for 2025. We have a ton of resources tied up in the offense including the highest paid OL in the league multiple 1st round WR's and multiple recent draft picks across the offense at TE and RB and we have two 1000 yard backs. Bryce and company couldn't get past Tyler Shough and his crew in 2 games. That's all there is to it. You can spin it and put the entire onus on the defense to your heart's desire it doesn't change the fact that this is an OFFENSIVE team now. If you want to argue that we should revert back to a defensive identity as we have been in the past which has brought us success then I will agree with you on that. But as it stands the onus is on the offense because that is where we have invested through the nose. Dave Canales and Bryce Young need to do a hell of a lot better than they have against the rebuilding Saints who without us should only have 2 wins this season.
    • Bryce is not trending up. He is the same QB he has always been. Bottom of the league in most categories.  If Canales thinks he can build a contender with Bryce then he is a bigger idiot then I thought.  Offense next year will have the same issues and be just as inconsistent as it was this year.  We have seen Bryce’a ceiling and it is 175 yards a game and that is not a QB you keep around as your starter. That is barely a backup.
