John Fox in Denver vs. Carolina vs. Ron Rivera

The way Rivera is viewed now is similar to how Fox was viewed on his way out. Offensively challenged, too loyal, conservative former defensive coordinator.

Once in Denver and surrounded by Peyton Manning and some better offensive minds the John Fox in Denver hardly resembles the image he portrayed in Carolina.

Could Carolina upgrade to a cutting edge offensive coordinator and keep Rivera and Cam in place and be successful? I think so.

In my opinion Rivera may have the ability to adapt, but I wouldn't be opposed to going in a different direction.

Ron had a chance to do this - we interviewed Hue Jackson for our vacant OC position 2 off seasons ago, and he ended up going with Shula.

That will never happen. Ron needs to be let go and i think he will be more then likely especially if things keep going the way they have. He will find another job but it will not be with the Panthers.

well considering how john fox is discussed on this site now we'll be reading threads in three years about how rivera was actually a wonderful head coach whose teams always had a strong identity and were prepared and ready to play week in and week out

He adapted for one season, then he went back to who he truly is.  That's not really adapting.

 

That, plus there's been no progress shown toward fixing deficiencies in his coaching skill set.

Even if we had a dynamic OC that had complete control, it wouldn't change the lack of preparation, the lack of conditioning, the lack of urgency and intensity, poor in-game decisions, and overall lackadaisical approach. Ron is a poor man's Norv Turner. Not HC material in the slightest.

I was never a fan of Fox's overly conservative style BUT Fox could at least manage a game and not completely fug up every timeout/playclock/game clock situation... Rivera has shown over and over again that he is inept at game management.
