So I bought my first suit...

lightsout

Recommended Posts

I graduated from my Basic Law Enforcement Training program today (yay me), and needed to wear a suit. Totally out of my element, since the only time I've worn anything like it was a tux in a wedding in high school and my two proms, so I had no idea what I was getting. I figured, "Well, I'm sure I'll need a suit for various things from this point on, so I might as well buy rather than rent". Since I was told to get said suit kind of last minute, I didn't have time to get it tailored or anything.

So I go to Belk. Figured they have holiday sales, maybe I get lucky. As I'm looking, I notice a big blue and white sign on the wall. "MADE" with "Newton" written into the letters. Yep, Cam's clothing line. So, I figure I HAVE to at least try on a coat. I do, and it's fuging perfect. Then I figure it HAS to be pricey, even on a sale.....nope. $170 for the pants and coat. Figure I'd spend about that much renting anything quality from somewhere, so I go with it. Very happy I did. Got a LOT of compliments on it, and it is a damn near perfect fit (sleeves need to be tailored a bit, but otherwise, it's good).

Might post a pic of me in it later if anybody is interested. I definitely suggest it to anybody looking for a suit though. Very happy with my purchase.

TL;DR, I didn't have a suit, so I bought one of Cam's suits and it is awesome. Go buy one.

I won't talk trash about buying a Cam Newton line suit.

But please tell me you got the pants tailored. Guys that buy (usually rent of course) suits and let the cuffs of their pants bunch up like a spring at the shoes need to be shot.

Got a size shorter than normal just to avoid it. They ride up a bit higher when I sit, but standing, it looks squared away.

You working in Shelby?

Who knows? I'm applying a lot of places. Shelby PD isn't hiring right now, and CCSO isn't hiring full time for a bit (starting part time applications in January). CMPD is taking applications in January. Some other semi-local agencies are hiring, but they're small departments, so fewer slots.

I'm looking to stay relatively close to Charlotte and Shelby. Anything close to either city is where I ideally want to at least start out.

Congrats on BLET, just so you know some sheriffs offices require working in the jail first, so don't be surprised if they tell you that.

Also ask how they do overtime and if it's comp or not, the difference there can mean a few thousand dollars a year, for example I get overtime but a neighboring agency for me gets comp. also ask about if you get holiday pay or not

Reason being if two agencies are offering the same pay those questions can be easily the difference between $1-3k a year more in pay.

I would research the agencies too, try to have as many questions for them as they may have for you. And above all else be honest.

Try Reidsville. That place needs to be cleaned up...

    • It’s like being on the Flyers broadcast team feed so far
    • Boy the flyers look good early. Lots of bad plays and slow start by our team. Hope that changes before the score changes.
    • I guess I should have stipulated outside the sacred cow.   I complained from year one that Bryce should compete for and win the starting job on his own merit but no he was just handed it. I have been right there with everyone that wants competition.  But I don’t really have a huge problem with it for this season the way it has gone because where are the viable people we don’t have to trade for? I actually am okay with tiny hands Pickett because he is so close to Bryce arm strength wise and to be honest, skill wise. Probably. And it is only a one year deal.  That also takes into account that the QB class is looking stacked next year and if Young fails miserably then we get either a reset or a real competition and there will be more guys that I would like looking at in the FA QB class next year as well.    I sort of accept where we are this year and look at it as another treading water year (at QB). I just want to get to next year with some clarity. More than anything. And they did empty out the room (behind him anyway). Again, who was really there for us?  And I know it would not be a true competition at this point anyway. They are giving him the year, like it or not.    Also I don’t give a poo about winning games IF he sucks and or goes down after sucking because draft position and that stacked QB class.  And I want out from under him So Bad.     So I guess it is several factors that lessen my anxiety over his backup this particular season.    I am not trying to convince anyone, but you asked. That’s how I look at it.
