Brandt: Draft position will likely be 21 (provided we get the W)

We need to find TDs replacement soon

This.  And we have a good defensive system for grooming an OLB.  Most OLBs are flexible enough to play Strong side or Weakside on our defense, but for a large percentage of our defensive snaps we only have 2 LBs on the field.  Therefore, an OLB of the future could potentially make a meaningful contribution to the team at the WLB spot while gaining valuable experience to replace Davis after the next couple of years.  I wouldn't be unhappy with an OLB in the first if the player is right.  I know the Huddle would explode, though, because it's not an obvious need.  But neither was Keuchly.

All of those guys had 85+ rushing yards, and that's not even most of them.

Finding RBs isn't hard. Look at what the Pats have done, putting in guys who rush for 4 TDs and then don't play much the rest of the year. RB is a position that's defined by the system.

sure you have a few UDFAs and late round picks at ANY position that develop into starting caliber players.right now there are only THREE RBs amongst the top TWELVE rushing leaders who have been drafted or undrafted after or past the first three rounds.good luck after the third round because its projects that more often than not don't make it.so in fact success at RB is not defined by the system but TALENT.

I'm sure I'm in the minority but I say do whatever it takes to make our DLine elite again.

That doesn't necessarily mean take a player in the first round, but if he's there and he's BPA, I ****** him.

It's astonishing what constant pressure can do for an overall defense. Not to mention now we have corners who are actual playmakers themselves...

I would agree with this. I don't care what SS we have, if we don't have a pass rush our defense is going to struggle. Also we struggled against the run quite a bit this year.

If both Hardy and CJ are gone next year I could see DE being high on our need list. Also I think both of our back up DTs are FAs this year so I wouldn't be shocked if we draft one of those,

2 things. First, until Chuckie weighs in with his evaluations, I will wait to throw in my opinions.

Second. It is kinda nice, that at this point in time. We have fewer NEEDS than we did last year. LT, S, and a 2nd WR are really all we need.

Soooo....until I hear from Chuck, I will just leave it at positions. He will fill in the players.

I think we go OT in the first unless either of these three players are stiill on the board:

 Cooper WR Bama

Collins SS Bama

White WR WVU

Expect a run on DEs, OLBs,  OTs, and WRs

Here is how I see it in December---

These players are very likely to go in the 1st ROUND of the NFL draft, I put players I expect to be gone by 21 in red (outside looking in are projected second rounders who could rise by April):

2 QBs: Mariota ORE, Winston FSU (outside looking in: Hundley UCLA)

3 DTs: Williams USC, Shelton WASH, Goldman FSU

3 WRs: Cooper ALA, White WVU, Parker LOUISVILLE (Outside looking in:  Strong, ARIZ ST)

1 SS: Collins ALA

6 OLB/DE: Gregory NEB, Oakman BAY, Ray MISSOU, Beasley CLEM, Fowler FSU, Thompson WASH, (outside looking in: Dupree KEN)

1 CB Waynes MICH ST

0 RB (Outside looking in: Gurley UGA, Gordon WISC)

0 TE

0 FB

0 OC

0 G (Outside looking in: Cann, South Carolina)

4 OT Scherff IOWA, Peat STAN, Collins LSU, Stanley, NOTRE DAME (Outside looking in: Clemmings, PITT, Ogbuehi, Tex AM)

Tackles to keep your eye on in round 2:  Drango BAYLOR (could be round 1 talent if medical checks out), Flowers MIAMI, Sambrailo COLO ST.

My personal Favorite:  Stanley, ND.

Players I see Gettlemen grabbing:  Clemmings PITT; Drango BAYLOR

Note: There is talk that Peat may return to Stanford; Stanley is a redshirt sophomore who recently inquired about his potential draft status and was told he would be in the first round.  He probably comes out.

Depending on what Peat does, I could see Stanley and Flowers going 1-2 at OT.

Melvin Gordon won't make it past Seattle in the 1st wherever they pick.

Peters, Darby, Williams all CB's that will get some attention in the 1st. Peters is my favorite but was dismissed from Washington earlier this year.

Dorial Green-Beckham is another WR that could end up going in the 1st if he declares.

I too, would love Stanley but he'll be long gone. I could see DG doing exactly what you said as well. If we're picking in the 20's I think there's more value on the defensive side of the ball. I'd like Shaq Thompson. He could play strong safety or outside linebacker but is a playmaker wherever you put him. Athletic as hell and would make an impact!

    • Winning culture trumps ALL.    Here’s my way to long take:  Last season this team started out breaking the sports books and being the lead pipe lock of the week. They finished by being a tough out for both SB teams.  I don’t think they’ll pick up right where they left off, but for the first time in years they’re on the legitimate upswing. Honest to God NFL talent has been infused.  Offense is already going to be good for 2-3 more 3rd down conversions (I don’t think anyone will argue that) a game over last year so I’ll go (very optimistically) 5-6 more points better than last year’s team. ADDED: A legit backup RB and a money WR who catches everything, along with 2 promising rooks. No significant losses (sorry Miles). KEYS: Can Dave bob and weave play calling if things aren’t working? Does protection continue to hold for Bryce. Did this team pick up dudes who know how to find the end zone or will the struggle of 3rd and goal continue.  Defense. If they can force even 2 (hopefully 3) more stops a game on third down (not asking a lot, hopefully more), that’s good for -4 (optimistic) points for opposing teams.  ADDED: legit run stuffers. Legit (appearing) edge guys. LOST: Clowney. Question: With legit 3-4 talent can Evero finally show what we have been VERY patiently waiting on? To me, EVERYTHING on defense hinges on Evero. Everything. Every position group was upgraded (still not good enough, but certainly improved).  Losing Brown early and Luvu… completely and utterly devastated the run defense. Luvu put up one of the best seasons at LB this team has ever seen. His under appreciation by some fans was criminal. He alone was our 3 down stop machine. Brown was pretty much it up front. Those 2 held RBs in check long enough for safety help to arrive.  Coaching: Halftime adjustments and no prevent defense. In a nutshell, that’s pretty much it. No cutesy offense to show off WRs/Bryce when it’s not working. Use your sledgehammers, Dave.  There is finally veteran leadership and legit NFL talent. It’s going in the right direction (I couldn’t have been more wrong last offseason) to build a winning culture, but teams have to learn how to win, especially the games where nothing is going right (this team has NEVER been able to do that). They will still lose more close games than they win, and that alone is where it all hinges.
    • With his current level of play I'm quite content to not activate his 5th year option and let him walk away for free after year 4.
    • Self described anti-Bryce dude wants us to fail to take a major step forward     Yeah that lines up.
