"He's the most athletic Quarterback... Ever"

Better than Vick yes, better than RGIII when healthy?! Debatable

Cam is and always has been a MUCH better passer than Griffin. Griffin has always been incredibly limited in the passes he's comfortable throwing.

I will say he is better throwing the deep ball than Cam is right now. Which is baffling, because that was Cam's best ball as a rookie.

RGIII sucks. He wasn't impressive his rookie year. Was a one read gimmick QB....who heavily threw to the line of scrimmage and he same TE route.

Best offensive rookie was Morris on that squad IMO.

Vick likely was a better pure athlete than Cam. RGIII was just a track guy...he has always seemed a tad awkward to me. Which is why he runs to contact and struggles juking away from it (dating back to college).

he wasn't impressive as a rookie? wow!

Cam was impressive athletically his first two years. His dominance on 3rd and short and goalline situations has diminished a great deal. He also doesn't use his athleticism well. Harold Minor was athletic.

Aaron Rodgers, Big Ben and Russell Wilson use their athleticism much better.

Last week was the first time he really looked healthy all season to me. Maybe he finally opted to take "the shot".

Not sure I agree with your statement regarding last season. He looked pretty darn athletic to me. Cam dominated short yardage situations all season, minus the playoffs.

Read the first page and saw that people did not seem to get the Brady comment.  Here is the point that was trying to be made.  Brady was not drafted until late because he was incredibly slow.  He looked terrible in shorts.,  He had no muscle tone, no reason to think he was a professional golfer, much less a professional football player.

He is now considered one of the greatest QBs of all time.  So is Manning.  So is Montana.  So is Unitas.   None were incredible athletes.

The point was this:  Being a great athlete is not necessarily a characteristic of a great QB.  Some may call it a detriment (because a great athlete tends to be more athletic and less cognitive because they were able to succeed with their legs when things break down.  The list above always must use their brains.  They adapt to the game differently.

The fact that Brady is old and Cam is not has nothing to do with anything.  The fact that Cam has not had the time to be great means nothing because all QBs who are young and suck can say the same thing.  That is not a valid argument.  You could say the same thing about Jimmy Clausen,

There are many very athletic QBs who busted in the NFL.  Vince Young, The Golden Calf of Bristol, for example.  There are also some who are good athletes, but most adapted their games to remain in the pocket and play a cognitive game.  Steve Young, John Elway, Andrew Luck, Warren Moon--all were good athletes who became pocket passers.  Athletic QBs who never could (Vick, Kaepernick) are accused of having accuracy issues.  Yes, the make some spectacular runs and dazzle the crowds at times, but in the end, they never get over the hump.

Where is Cam right now?  I want him to become a pocket passer, work on his mechanics, and use his athleticism only when he has to--like Aaron Rodgers.  Right now, for him to be successful, he has to run the ball on occasion to get an advantage.  When you are looking to run, your feet are rarely committed to the pass--they reveal what is going on in the mind.  Cam throws off his back foot because he wants to bail.  He faces the LOS and throws all arm because he is preparing to run when he sees someone break open-so he throws all arm.  He is athletic enough to get away with it, but it causes accuracy issues.  Running causes health issues.  I do not see how a real Cam fan who wants to see him become great does not realize that the way he is right now is not going to contribute to longevity.  That is why so many "athletic" qbs struggle.  Keapernick, Young, The Golden Calf of Bristol--they get figured out.  But when I suggest that Cam has not arrived as an elite qb for these reasons, people get mad.

So Cam is athletic.  we all agree.

    • There is a Grand Canyon-sized chasm between your opinion and the opinions of most former player hockey guys who do this for a living.
    • I can only imagine the **** eating grins on the committee right now. "Oh, Bama didn't deserve it? Oh, Miami didn't deserve it? Suck it, haters!" lol
    • To say that, is gaslighting, because it isn’t true. I mean, maybe one or two people do that but it isn’t the predominant behavior. Even Frank has given him credit. I think particularly the Rams game. A couple of glowing posts.   I know I have. Gotta be honest about it because if you aren’t it undermines what else you say.  But the degree of how far I go with credit, in terms of it being a projection of future performance? Not very far. Acknowledge it, but require more of it. There is a lot of bad play to offset.    I tried to remain passive while the last 9 games (post ankle injury) played out. It is just really hard when the lows won’t go away. I failed. As high as a couple of those highs were, there isn’t enough.    I know it is premature to just say I want to move on, made my decision after 6 of those games ended up pretty much really good or not good enough, but I have had enough of being patient and letting him show the reality either way.  So in my view, he Could still validate himself to a decent degree if he smokes the last three starts. But also in my view I don’t expect to see it. Maybe one more high quality start, would be my expectation. So yes he could still somehow justify having the job next year. If that happened I still wouldn’t have much faith given the last three years and all that has transpired. Again, there is a lot of bad play to offset.
