Would you rather.....Cam Newton edition

Simple.............Let Cam utilize his genetic make up and skill sets in the best manner that leverages them for a victory.....however, Cam should error on the side of caution and take a slide rather than unnecessary hits when running..........I believe using Cam in this manner is best served when he is attempting to move the chains on a 3rd down situation so if he's got room to make that first down let him take off being aware of sliding if needed once past the marker.......

That use of Cam is no more abusive than an Aaron Rogers type play as a QB but still allows for Cam to leverage this skills...........

Cam got more banged up in the pocket when the O line was struggling........

.....and hell he's no runner at all but look how banged up Ryan got last week trying to hide in their collapsing pocket.

You want a healthy QB?.........get him an Oline...........then let them leverage their genetic make up and skill sets to benefit the team as a whole....

Again?

The reason Cam takes big hits is because He IS a pocket passer. This has been an oline issue all year. It's not about should Cam throw or run... Cam can do both ... and win. The reality is... We need a run game to keep a defense honest. Cam gives our run game another dimension. Cam gives our pass game another option when a play breaks down. The designed run plays actually do more damage to the opposing defense than it does the QB. But none of it works.. when your line is trash.

Cam's injuries have had nothing to do with what has happened on the field. But his ankle injury has effected his play on the field. It took him awhile to get back to form, then he flipped his truck... Now we're in the playoffs.... First time repeat NFC Champs... First time we went to playoffs back to back.

Cam has his challenges.... but my LORD... Let Cam be Cam. A Pocket passer who can get out of it if necessary. Yes he's a Big and mobile quarterback....  but he's still a quarterback. And we're gonna win with him.

1 injury equals taking a toll?

The ankle issue existed since Auburn. The back was the result of a car wreck.

Let Cam be Cam.

Only concern for me is his not getting out of the way of hits well enough. That's what caused his broken ribs in August.

Cam takes bigger hits in the pocket than when he's running and can proactively protect himself, and the biggest hit he took this year was from Nestor Pellot Jr. Let Cam be Cam.

Actually worst hit he took was from the Pats defender.. Missed 2 weeks with that, whereas he missed 1 after the car accident. Sorry for getting technical...

The biggest "monster hits" Cam has taken since he's been in the league have been in the pocket. Cam protects himself pretty darn well as a runner.

I've seem him deliver more blows as a runner than he's taken, therefore I'm curious as to where all these "monster hits" he's taken are that I've missed while he's been running?

I don't disagree but when he belly flops he opens himself up for more injury because there is no way to cushion a hit like you can with a fall.

Cam has never taken a hard hit running in an NFL game. NEVER. 467 rushes, 2,571 yards, 33 touchdowns & he's never taken a hard hit.

His ankle injury was suffered at Auburn when he was running 25 times a game. His rib injury was a preseason freak injury. His back injury came from a car wreck.

He's built like a Cyborg & avoids contact. The only time he doesn't avoid contact is at the goal line.

Cam takes harder hits standing in the pocket. Tom Brady & Peyton Manning suffered serious, potential career ending injuries from the pocket.

Making Cam a pure pocket passer is like making Michael Jordan a pure jump shooter. Can he do it? Yeah. He can develop into one of the best at it, but you're handcuffing him & eliminating a part of his game that makes him special.

I don't disagree with that.

But I've seen plenty of QB's "slide" and take one right on the chin/head from a defender trying to get a lick in. If a QB "surrenders" himself, be it a head-first or feet-first slide, the refs are supposed to protect the QB if he gets down early enough. And IMO he's just as liable to take a cheap shot on a baseball slide as any other.
