The flu

Still not worth the time.

4 or 5 years ago my husband didn't get the flu shot, my son and I did. He got the flu and was sick for over a week and miserable. Son and I were fine. Certainly was worth the time for us.

Had this a few weeks ago I think.  Hit me out of nowhere after a few hours at work.  Wife and I carpool uptown so I couldn't even go home for like 5 hours till she could get free and get me.  I had the shakes from terrible fever at work, had to vomit/#2 as well (and I haven't vomited in like 15 years, and I NEVER use the toilet at work lol).  It was terrible.  Got in the car and turned heat to like 100 all the way home.  Just slept it off while taking some flu medicine (over the counter).  Fever broke late that night and then I felt rough for a couple days but got over it.

I was on-call for work too that week and got a call EVERY night past 1am.  Was a terrible week.

  • 2 weeks later...

So my son got sick over the weekend, he was kind of sick on Saturday and then had a high fever early Sunday and was feeling pretty good by Sunday night. He still has a cough. His sickness was short lived so I figured it wasn't the flu plus we had gotten the vaccine. Then I got sick on Tuesday with similar symptoms to my son. I went to the doctor and I tested positive for the flu. He told me the flu vaccine this year was only 27% effective but that I was lucky to have gotten the vaccine because the vaccine typically causes the symptoms to be less severe. Yesterday I felt Ok, today I feel pretty damn good especially for a girl with the flu.

So while the vaccine was only 27% effective this year it seems to help lessen the severity and length of symptoms.

best medicine for the fever is rum and hot water....

step by step....

run a tub as hot as you possibly can...or if you don't live in a trailer park, make sure your hot tub is ready

consume a couple of rum beverages...however you typically drink it is fine

when just slightly buzzed...key word is slightly...pour three more ounces of rum into a glass and shoot it back

get into tub and do your best to stay awake for at least 10 minutes

leave tub and after you dry off, climb straight into bed

awake 8 to 10 hours later and prepare to wash your sheets

consume copious amounts of water and continue on with your life.

This is interesting. Not sure I buy it, but interesting none the less.

You northwestern (Canadian) hippies.

the internal med physicians I know will always suggest the shot and take the shot. In fact CHS requires it.

The flu shot would kill me. Guess I'll have to keep my immune system healthy by not going around people and keeping my hands out of my face.

Egg allergy by chance?

I have an egg allergy and have never gotten the shot, although I probably could because my allergic reaction isn't an anaphylactic one.

I've only gotten the flu one time and it sucked pretty terribly.
