Cam Newton

Cam had pretty sluggish middle part of the season, but he has really bounced back. First, he came into the season unhealthy after ankle surgery in the offseason. Then he broke some ribs in the preseason. Then he had the car accident later on in the year. So it’s been one of those years where his body has been physically tested. As a result, Cam hasn’t played to his full potential, but I think he’s feeling healthier right now, which is just the right time.

He is 3-0 since the car accident. That says a lot about his resilience. The fact that he has both running backs DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart healthy also helps lighten his offensive load. With running back support now, you can see that their offense is playing a lot better.

It’s going to be a big game for Cam coming into the intimidating environment at CenturyLink Field. How can he handle the noise? How can he communicate in those conditions? If the defense makes some big plays against him, how is he going to handle the adversity? Those are going to be the big questions for Cam. When things go wrong, he doesn’t always handle it very well. So I want to see if he’s able to overcome that adversity.

That said, I think he’s matured. He’s handling things better as a leader. I notice the changes in the way he talks when he’s in front of a podium after football games—win or lose. You’re starting to see a guy who carries himself more like a quarterback. As a quarterback, you’ve got to always present that positive and confident front. You speak for your guys—for your team. You’ve got to be that positive voice and that positive identity for your whole football team. Everybody has to know that even after a rough week, there’s another week ahead.

For Carolina, that leadership has to start with Cam.

I think all his questions are on point and i hope to see Cam ball the fugg out. Its also nice to get a noteworthy person that has actually paid attention to Cam's maturity.

I've never been a Cam fan, but it's only because he played at Auburn. My wife and 2 adult children love him to death. I'd like nothing more than for him to have a day that will finally shut everyone up and where he looks head and shoulders above Wilson and all the other Qb's he keeps getting compared to.

No doubt. thats why it would be all the more sweeter!

Hell.....yes!!!!

I want it to happen so bad. I've got so many wolfpack homers around here in eastern NC that are always babbling about how great Russell Wilson is. I would love for Cam to go ballistic today.

I have nothing against Russell. He eeems like a good guy and he's a good player, but this notion that he's head and shoulders better than Cam is absurd, and these wolfpackers are making me want to see him get pummeled and throw four picks. Is that wrong?

    • The last 8 weeks, Nix had 2,022 yards, 21 TDs, 6 INTs on 70% completions While Bryce's last 8 games he had 1,709 yards, 12 TDs (albeit adding 5 more rushing), 3 INTs on 61% completions. I'm not going to pretend I watched those Broncos games to know exactly how Nix actually looked, but in retrospect, his statistics were better.  Hell, in just his final 8 games, Nix has only 5 less TD passes than Bryce has in his 30 game (28 starts) career. And you said he had better WRs than Bryce did, but I'm not even sure that's even true either. Sutton and Thielen might be completely different types of WRs, but I'd say they are pretty equal on effectiveness if not even a slight edge to Thielen (63.6 YPG for Sutton to 61.5 for Thielen).  Then XL and Coker vs Marvin Mims and Devaughn Vale, again, at worst a push, if not lean in our favor there too. Why is it so hard for some Panthers fans to just objectively look at our team/Bryce and be honest with themselves. ? He was significantly improved the final two months of the season from his first season and a half.  But he was still a below average QB during that time, even if he had a few good throws and clutch moments.
    • The Canes physically dominated 2 of the top 16 teams in the league this calendar month. If you truly believe Florida is just that much more physical than us, then what does that say about the rest of the league? Why didn't they go 82-0 this year, if they are orders of magnitude better than every other team?
