Ravens tell Smith to take a little time out

Mr. Scot

Recommended Posts

Ravens are a veteran team run by a hardnosed cleaver and mean GM who knows the NFL because he used to be a damn good player himself.

Please dont expect anythin less from that organization.

They know the sort of commitment they need from smity and also know that no one not even Peyton can beat Mother time. She will go 7 billion - zero if she deems it necessary.

They let their players know what sort of football to expect. So when you sign up .. youd better be ready to bring it.

Steve Smith is as selfish as they come when it comes to football and will want to play for as long as even one team will have him. He desperately wants to keep going up the lists of receiving records and that's basically the only thing driving him now that he got to play, own, and beat the Panthers. He's never winning a championship.

Can you imagine Steve Smith's life post-NFL? What will a 45 year old Steve Smith look like?

Said it elsewhere, but it applies here...

Smith is that type of guy who moves on to a new hot girlfriend, but still can't be completely content unless he knows his old girlfriend is alone and unhappy.

The fact that the Panthers actually made it just as far in the playoffs as he did, and did so without his help, probably annoys the daylights out of him.

God forbid we actually have success in the next few years.

It'll happen eventually. Smith's bulldog mouth has bit off more than his puppy dog ass can chew his entire career. He's gonna mouth off to someone who doesn't talk and play games and get his ass whooped.

Smith isn't tough. He's a punk. He runs his mouth but he never does a damn thing. He's all talk. It's easy to beat your chest and shove guys when you're surrounded by 52 friends. If he got into an actual fight he would get his tiny ass whooped.

Yeah! Its not like Smitty has ever actually punch... wait...

Maybe Smitty is having a Epiphany, and realizing that he aint what he used to be. I still think he will retire a Panther, will he next year? Prolly not.

Actually sounds more like Ozzie Newsome and John Harbaugh are the ones having that particular 'epiphany'.

Gettleman seems to have learned from his mistakes. Steve Smith seems to not have learned from his.

When asked about Deangelo Williams, Gettleman said that he would like to speak with Deangelo before saying much. That is him learning from the SS media fiasco of last year.

That's all I want to see from people is learning and getting better. Players, coaches, management.

Steve Smith still trying to fight people in corridors and hallways just reinforces my opinion that Gettleman was wise to move forward.

Sounds very similar to when I was a kid and my Mom told me to go to my room and think about what you've done and then come back if you decide you can act like a big boy.

Or the Ravens might bring in a fresh crop of new and young receivers and wants Smith's new role to be as more of a mentor.

    • I see they blamed Slavin for the goal like I did.
    • See this is the problem, you say "can't get off the line quick" and "can't separate quick" but in reality it's "he can get off the line better and create more separation" which are two completely different things. If he couldn't get off the line or separate, he wouldn't have put up the numbers he did and end up a Top 10 pick. But he can get better, and maybe more accurately, consistent with them both, and that will take his game to the next level.  These are things that are also much easier to improve once you get to the NFL than things like being a poor route runner or having bad hands, two of his strengths. Thinking he can't get open in the short passing game also shows you haven't watched enough tape on him, as he was used in that role so much in college with little issue getting open and making plays. And him not using his physicality as much isn't even something that hurts his game because he's so much more agile than a player of his size should be, which he used to his advantage.  Instead of throwing passes where he'd go up and box out a player like a TE or Mike Evans does, they use his athleticism and put the ball in places that only he can get to it, and he usually does (and yes, he'll still be able to do that against NFL DB's with his catch radius). But now that he's in the NFL, I'd like to see him get stronger and add that to his game because it also will help him take his game to another level. As I've said before, if he doesn't improve on those things at all, I think he's a Top 25 WR in this league, he's already that good.  But I think he'll improve on those things and be a perennial Top 10 WR and in his prime is considered and perform like Top 5 guy in some years. My expectations for him this year at 800 yards and 8 TDs (although I do think he'll get to 10 TDs) with a real chance at getting to 1,000.  But those expectations are because I think Thielen will lead the team in yards with close to 1k and XL/Coker each end up in the 500-600 range themselves, just too many mouths to feed this year for a rookie to dominate yardage, especially if we're running the ball well again. But if Thielen can't stay healthy or puts up sub 750 yards, then yea, my expectations for T-Mac likely shift to getting to 1k as a rookie.
    • Svech only 1 goal behind the guy they've pretty much already given the Conn Smythe to...
