Jerry Richardson sure is consistent in getting rid of troublemaking players immediately!

That's why when Steve Smith ended up in jail in 2002 after ending fellow receiver Anthony Bright's career by breaking his nose and eye socket, he definitely wasn't signed to a 6 year $27 million extension after the 2003 season.

That's why when Steve Smith was suspended by the Panthers for 2 games for seriously injuring Ken Lucas during practice in 2008, he definitely wasn't signed to a 3 year extension in 2012.

OH NO WAIT

Steve Smith was a cancer hated by everyone in the organization except Jerry Richardson for some unknown reason and he managed to stay on this team for 13 seasons despite assaulting fellow teammates MULTIPLE times in front of dozens of witnesses both times. He essentially ended both guys' careers. He stayed in part due to elite talent.

But yet Greg Hardy, who was also charged with a misdemeanor assault charge (with no eyewitnesses mind you), is getting booted out the door? Despite how godly he has played in recent seasons? Despite still being young, despite playing a much more important position than wide receiver?

Can someone please help me make sense of this? Smith had his misdemeanor assault charge dropped too, but only after he entered a deferred-prosecution program. Greg Hardy won't have to do a thing and charges have been immediately dropped period. What the hell?

Hardy is a FA who likely wasn't getting resigned regardless of his legal issues. He didn't get booted from anything. Don't be a nitwit.

Pretty sure Hardy wasn't going to be a long term Panther before the incident. G-spot just wasn't going to pay him. So at that point, well it is moot.

However we could have maybe gotten something in a trade for him which is better than nothing. At best we get a late 3rd rounder for him and even that is in doubt.

Wow can't believe I agree with Sam mills fan, but he is absolutely correct. Greg Hardy was accused of hitting and threatening Nicole holder who has showed the world how unreliable of a human being she is. Steve smith was consistently a jackass and ended a teammates career, but Jerry Richardson loved him. What can you do though? This is the way Jerry Richardson runs things.

89- punched a man(several times)

76- was accused of beating/threatening a young woman

Football = Men hitting Men

Of the first two, which most resembles the equation above?

Smith did it, twice, with multiple eyewitnesses.

Hardy was accused of doing something, once, with no eyewitnesses and all charges were dismissed.

    • If he really wants to be here, that can happen.  It's totally up to him.  Yes, he'll have to take a hometown discount to do it.  He'll have to show that the last two seasons were outliers and he hasn't become an injury risk. It will come down to money and how much of it he wants.  If he wants to be paid at the upper end of the scale, it won't and can't happen here.  When healthy, he deserves that kind of pay and if he wants it someone else will pay it. It can totally happen.  And it's totally in his court.
    • He was on the "sideline" during OTA or mini camp, Im sure there was some Twitter/X post but news just moves so fast now.  He's not getting the press as TMac or even Horn, but he is making plays. That's the other deal, Im a big fan of his!  Just in order to get great value you need to give value in return. I said he would have been a 3rd rounder in 2025 draft, he just had bad luck with injuries hurting his stock and coming out in a deep WR class.
    • I've always said that PFF is a tool. If you don't know how to use it, or don't want to know how to use it, then it's useless. But some people actually do know how to use it---which is why it still exists and is used by all 32 NFL teams---and part of this is putting it all within context----seeing the bigger picture. If you don't understand that not all players, develop at the same rate, have different levels of talent, have injuries that affect their play, and face different circumstances in regards to the opposition and coaching, for example, then I don't know what to tell you. Coaches set expectations based upon a variety of things, not only last year's stat sheet, which may have been brought about by dynamics that you, as a fan, may or may not understand. And even if you have some understanding of them, as a fan, you still will never have the clarity that they do---the concerns or the context that they do. As a fan, you should even be putting your lack of understanding their context, into context (and stop trying to act like you know something to be true based upon a bad season at the end of the day).
