First World Problems

Mr. Scot

Recommended Posts

Those were dark times. Fans were turning on each other

I think some may have blanked it out.

Same problems, different positions.

Felt like the DT void went on forever until the double dip.

To the point where many were heard to say, "We drafted Luke Kuechly? What the #%@$? We need a defensive tackle!"

we need a LT, that is obvious. we need a physical #2 receiver. We need a kick returner. we need another DE if Hardy is gone. We need a safety. we need an OLB or two...one that can start this year and can replace TD eventually. we need a speedy physical corner. we need depth across both the Offensive and defensive lines and we could use a starting LG.

if we let Tolbert and Williams walk, we need a RB and a FB/TE.

thats about the gist of it

Help me out here.  I do not think the need for a DE is that big.  We have Addison, Alexander (we hope), Ealy, Horton, and Johnson.   Alexander and Ealy can move inside to rush.  So, do we need DE more than DT?  I keep hearing about needing a DE, but I do not see it as anything more than a luxury right now--my opinion is in the minority, so maybe there is some aspect of this I missed.

What do you not like about Norwell?

You know if you think about it. Back in the "old" days a rookie QB sat the bench for several year before taking over and the. It took a couple more for the rookie to turn into an all pro if a team was so lucky.

Well we have been blessed that Cam got thrown in the fire and has handled it pretty well.

I'll grant the "we must dump this guy" conversation is still happening. But even so, it still strikes me as there being a more optimistic tone in here than in prior years.

Frankly, a waaaayyyy more optimistic tone than anyone would have expected around, say, week nine.

And that's part of what gets me. We had a nightmarish season up till the latter days, and yet few people even seem to remember that (or at least they're not talking about it much).

That's because you have to look at the why of it and what changed.  The why is obvious.  Cam was playing hurt, the OL was horrendous, the defense struggled with not having Hardy, and our secondary couldn't cover my grandmother...and she's dead.

What changed?  We found our interior OL with Turner and Norwell, we found at least a competent (and maybe more) RT in Remmers, the defense finally accepted that Hardy wasn't coming to save them, Bene got healthy and we injected speed and youth in the secondary, Norman finally began to realize his ability, and most of all, Cam started getting healthy.

Now there is still a question about whether some of this was fools gold, but since there is no reason to think that yet, the expectation is that some of these players simply came into their own and we assume that should continue...but without doubt that's no certainty.  So there's plenty of reason to be optimistic, just not blindly.

with Bell at LT, we need a stud guard beside him. not dissing Norwell, but he's still an UDFA and you can't tell me there isn't a draft able guard that would be an upgrade.

Trai Turner has some health concerns and we need real replacements for Kugz and Silatolu.

Bell is a free agent.

But even if he weren't, I seriously doubt he's our starting left tackle next season.

I'd add draft status carries way less weight than performance.
