Public Service Announcement: Pushover GM vs. Results GM

SCP

The next few days will be full of rumors and speculation based on DeAngelo's comments. I am not sure about the funeral stuff. It certainly doesn't sound like the Panthers. Keep this in mind. The NFL is a huge business and our favorite organization is transitioning from a pushover GM that cried at retirement press conferences and paid players for past performance to a GM that was hired to right a ship heading towards a rocky shoreline. Feelings are going to be hurt when you go through a culture change.

Damn right, you treat the business as a fuging business....none of this family bullshit, families don't get fuging paid to deal with one another.

As a fan I love it, maybe actually winning some games will bring everyone together more than the he said she said, run over GM, overpaying GM, family drama bullshit does.

I agree that this is a business and that our gm should run it as such. Glad to have Gettleman as our Gm. That being said, I see no reason why Deangelo would lie about that. Makes no sense and if true, that is disappointing to me.

I'm not saying he's lying about it. He's probably telling the truth. I'm sure Rivera was there for him. In fact I remember reading an article where Rivera said he told DLo to take all the time he needed. Gettleman was waistband deep in the draft when DLo's mom passed. I am really surprised to hear that JR didn't reach out, that just does not seem like the JR you hear about.

Couldn't have said it better. All things eventually come to an end especially in pro sports. Gettleman has said time and time again leave your emotions out of the decision making process. Something that is easier said than done. I'm just glad Gettleman is a man of his word I think we're in good hands.

this organizations push for pink shows how important backing their players and the good of the fellow population speaks volumes.

there's no telling about what really happened, I know when my brother passed away my job told me to take all the time I needed to deal with it. I didn't expect any of them to be at the funeral, I was fine with their condolences.

family and tragedy brings out lots of emotions and maybe Deangelo didn't or hasn't had the time to properly deal with things and his release is just adding to the hurt.

we're all sorry Deangelo. Im sorry you've had to go through this.

I think it needs to be a balance. Fans want to be able to root for 'their' players, just needs to be about 75% business & 25% family. I think that can work. I want Cam Luke, TD, Smitty, Gross and the like to retire a Panther. You'll have situations like Smitty but hopefully more like Gross.

We'll probably never know what happened as I doubt JR will ever comment on it. As I said in the other thread, regardless of the truth, the timing of this makes DWill come across whiny and ungrateful, exactly the opposite of his initial statement (and I'm a huge DWill fan).

As for Gman, honestly he's paid to be the bad guy. I didn't like the particulars of how he handled Smitty last year but the end result needed to happen. He seemed to handle the Dwill situation better, but it is a business and that's something Hurney didn't seem to get.

From most accounts the Panthers are one hell of an organization when it comes to family and what's important. Hurney let it effect his job. In my outsider opinion of course, which is worth Jack squat.

    • It’s a fan message board. Fans are going to debate players. Especially the QB. I hope no one is genuinely upset about any of the dialogue on here.
    • Teddy Bridgewater was a check down QB….saying that doesn’t mean that he literally can’t and won’t throw downfield in a season.  Bryce Young was never drafted to be big armed downfield passer.  I don’t get those out defending him when it’s pointed out that he just  isn’t that.   And finding a game or two where he goes downfield doesn’t change much.  Because all QBs eventually go downfield.  Just like a Delhomme or Favre will play it safe in some random games.  Doesn’t mean they aren’t gunslingers that got gambling in their DNA.
    • Yeah, Fitzgerald was smart to sign with the panthers--not sure how many NFL teams were in the Market....I was surprised to see Morgan re-sign Tuttle and Ray--even if Ray's contract is completely unguaranteed--but with Brown, Wharton, Brown III, Robinson, Cam Jackson--maybe Crumedy--Tuttle could be excellent depth--but at DE, not DT, imo.  Once again, it appears that Morgan may have found UDFAs who have a shot making the team--last year, there were 2 who contributed in a meaningful way.  This year, I see CBs Thornton and Reid with a legitimate shot to make the roster.  I also think LB Nomura has a legit shot (Morgan has to love this guy) as well as LB Bam Martin Smith from USC.  Finally, I think one of the safeties will stick. In all, I expect 1-2 CBs, 1 LB, 1 S, 1 OL, 1 K to make this team. Predictions:   CBs Thornton and Reid make the 53-man roster.  LB Tuasivi Nomura makes the 53-man roster as a ST ace and ILB depth OL Michael Tarquin may make the roster to groom as a potential RT replacement for Moton.  Moton, BC, and Nijman are on expiring contracts.  While I like what I am hearing about Kandra, the OG room is very crowded.  Lewis, Hunt, Zavala, Kingston--but he could compete for the 4th G job. S:  Trevian Thomas, Isaac Gifford are probably the front runners, but Jack Henderson from Minnesota might be able to win a S spot as well.  I expect all three will not make the 53, but the darkhorse name to watch is Henderson. Henderson's Pro day: Minnesota DB Jack Henderson had arguably the BEST overall workout of any Safety in this entire draft: 40yd. 4.47 vertical. 40” Broad. 10’8” Shuttle. 4.15 3cone. 6.70 Bench. 12
