I'm not so sure Carolina drafts a running back at all.

I thought Reaves was solid considering the offensive line he had blocking for him. He was also a rookie and was going through injuries and yet posted the same ypg as our best Rb. In college he was a great all around back and I see no reason why he couldn't be in the running for the #3 Rb spot.

I think it all comes down to BPA and who's available when we draft. If a stud Rb is available in late rounds I see no reason why we wouldn't draft him. Since the Rb position is supposed to be deep I could also see us signing a UDFA Rb and there have been plenty of good UDFA running backs lately.

You gotta admit, if there is ONE thing the Huddle knows. It's RBs. The problem is, no two thoughts are the same. By the time you finish a thread, you are more confused than when you started.

Or is that just me?

RBs are a dime a dozen, you don't need to take one early.

If you are going to take one, you should get a good one early.

This year's class is deep, we can get a UDFA and still upgrade.

But Fozzy looked good once our line straightened out, he will be fine.

Fozzy is too raw, we need to add someone to push him.

Stewy can't stay healthy, we need to add a top shelf guy.

But the draft is crazy deep, we don't need to use a high pick, just get one later.

Reaves is a bust, or is he?

So my determination is thus. We need a thread to straighten out the mess this thread has produced.

I wouldn't mind spending a mid-round pick on a RB if the value is there. Heck, I would take Gurley/Gordon if they're there in the 2nd. I really like Duke Johnson too. I haven't seen enough out of Fozzy to declare him the backup. And Tolbert is a short yardage specialist. He's not the change of pace back we're looking for.

I also wouldn't mind signing a FA RB like Spiller or Forsett. But It's probably wiser to spend our cap room elsewhere.

Spiller could fill multiple roles. Committee RB, punt and kick returns

While Stewart played great the last half of the season we all know he has a high risk of being injured. That would leave us with Fozzy the starter and Reaves as the back up with Tolbert the short yardage/ fullback, if the season started today. I think the question is how does our staff feel about Fozzy being the workhorse if Stewart goes down? How much faith does our team have in Reaves to get the job done? As horrible as the offensive line was last year I think we could give him a pass on the bad ypc but the major stat I noticed is he never fumbled the ball.

Yes, not only on the field but in the locker room as well. Fozzy is hilarious and a positive person to have around. He is the real deal.

How much certainty in percentage fozzy is back next year? Im just waiting for him to make the team to add his jerseys to my "obscure players" collection that I wear to the games

    • if  ANYONE actually goes & looks at the FACTS on rookie Qb's after 2 full seasons as a starter in the NFL & they are still well below average do they rarely ever actually become top tier Qb's & instead most likely either do not recieve a second contract & or become life long backups...just saying
    • So he became GM and decided not to address the weakness in the QB room following one of the worst rookie QB performances in NFL history?  There were options last season other than signing Dalton to a 2 year deal. Brissett and Jones by a wide margin, both of whom outplayed Bryce, Wilson, Winston, hell even Rivers off the couch was more exciting at the QB position. The time to address the failure in the QB room was last year but instead people on the Huddle cheered when we brought Dalton back then cheered when we were able to get anything for him after they finally realized he was washed up like a few of had been saying all along and got poo'd for even mentioning.  This year, the options were more limited obviously, especially since we lost Icky. It changed the dynamic of our draft. I think we were stuck this year keeping Bryce, but i still think giving him a 5th year option for what has amounted to replacement worthy performance was the wrong move. Why guarantee 25m if you're planning to replace him? You think he's going to want to be a bridge QB? Hell no. He's going to want out and we'll end up cutting him if he has another lackluster season because no one is trading for him with that price tag.  Were there better options as far as production available. A couple. Were there guys available with more physical tools than Bryce, Pickett or Grier, you damn well better believe there were. I've been saying all along, you always keep looking for your 1b. Bryce has yet to prove he can be a starter. Keep looking for someone who may. Put competition in camp. Let the best QB lead the team. Stop settling for less than mediocre.
