League wide veteran purge

Mr. Scot

Recommended Posts

I know the pre-free agency period is a time when a decent number of vets tend to get cut, but it feels like more than the usual this year.

Anyone else sense that or am I off target here?

I am noticing that too, and considering the cap is going up considerably, a bit surprising.

It does feel like alot but i feel that alot of that is because there are big names that we grew and watched getting cut. Feels like most names i see cut i knew or heard about and know their stats. I do think we should seriously give a bunch of them a look as they can add depth and be potential starters for injury. If our young guys get injured or hit a wall towards the season. the vets can add a temp solution which could be a key to us getting to atleast the championship game.

It does seem like a lot more recognizable names than this year, but my theory is that it's a result of the spending that happened after the lockout.  It's basically been a contract worth of time since then and now it's time for those players and back loaded contracts that got paid after the lockout to come off the books.

Right!  They are sitting at 20+ mil over right now.  That is gonna be one hell of a purge.  Unless they get stupid and restructure everyone.   Those restructures only kick the can a little further down the road.

Seriously hoping they take the restructuring road. They won't be competitive next year no matter what, so them "gearing up for another playoff run" by extending everyone and them cutting everyone and rebuilding is probably the difference between them finishing 6-10 and 3-13.

    • The good thing about replacing a bad player is you really have nothing to lose. If their replacement is bad so what, you didn't get much worse and probably saved money.
    • I came over from the old Panthers Insider site. When Fox Sports bought that platform it slowly just started dying plus the guy who ran that site was dealing with some pretty significant health issues so the whole thing just slowly fell apart. Quite a few of us migrated over here. Not sure how many are still around.  I miss that place. It struck a nice balance of having enough active posters to keep productive conversation flowing but didn't have so much traffic that you end up with a lot of trolling BS. This place is getting there though since we shutdown new registrations but at some point we're going to have to open it back up or we'll watch this place slowly die off too as posters fall off for one reason or another. We just have to figure out a way to filter out the spam bots. It was a never ending battle to ban the spam bots to keep then from overrunning the site. You'd think they'd be a little more strategic. I mean, if you fill a site with nothing but spam people are just going to stop coming so it's not a sustainable model. But nope, every one of them makes dozens of duplicate threads filling up pages upon pages as soon as their account goes live.
    • lol...I don't remember that.  Although recalling what I had for breakfast yesterday is sometimes a challenge.  Hope it was a positive thing.
