I know the logistics would be hard but Free Agency should have a draft like TV format.

I know the logistics would be a challenge since FA is set up differently than the draft, but if the NFL could some way and some how find a way to make it work, they should have a 3-4 day period of Free Agency live on TV, have real time signing ceremonies and players holding up jersies etc.

I'm sorry but waiting for the draft all the way until end of April is torture. I would like to hear ideas on how you think this could work? With how the NFL is always looking for cash grabs, I'm suprised they haven't found a way to turn Free Agency into a prime time spectacle like the draft.

I sometimes wish they did free agency after the draft so you could see what kind of young talent you could draft prior to spending your free agent dollars. I know the NFLPA would NEVER go for it but it's fun to think about.

The logistics wouldn't be hard, they'd be virtually impossible.  The draft has a very predictable order with a clock on the picks.  Free agency is a free for all and with the 24 hour news cycle that came along with the internet, news of the contracts breaks immediately.  Almost always before they're even official.

Should be run like a Fantasy league with bidding on the players. Get the auctioneer from Storage Wars to run the bidding. Could schedule it over a couple of days, offense first day, defense second day. Put the players names into a hat, pull one out, and let the bidding start.

Please tell me you're joking.

That's a pretty dumb idea, sorry.  Just signed some 32-year old vet, and he has to fly all the way to some expo just to so he can smile and hold up a jersey of his new team?  I don't even know who would watch that, because you'd ALREADY know he was on the team due to the internet, etc.  It'd be pointless.

It's called ESPN and NFLN, OP.  They spend a good bit covering every big FA signing as it happens.

I dont see why not?

Huuuuuuge TV ratings.

March them out on to the stage like fashion models let them spin and dance maybe pickup something heavy or do a backflip whatever to make the price jump.

Slate the players into tiers based on production and age with production weighted heavily on young guys while the age would be negatively weighted on older guys.

the more i type the more it starts to feel dirty... almost like ive heard of this type of "auction" before........

    • Basically agree.  He is the one of that bunch that offers upgraded pass catching along with he is supposed to be kind of special.   Then you have the OL and the ideas that if they perform you can have JAG backs and still do well. So okay we could be fine.  But Brooks is important and to me that receiving element sets him apart.  So there sure is something riding on him.     What strikes me as incongruent is people over in Atlanta or those that follow them look at Penix with a third surgery and act like it is no big deal.      And we are on pins and needles over Brooks.  Either they should worry a lot more or we should worry a lot less.
    • I usually go a game or two optimist over the consensus here but this is too early for me to say. I need to see some players on the field.  I am not feeling real optimistic though.
    • Okay as a ‘take CJ’ fan I actually don’t obsess over CJ and Houston, contrary to the narrative.  But I thought I picked up some noise that his OL left a lot to be desired.    Not a single Beyce supporter would judge him harshly if he had a crappy OL. We all know that.    So be fair about it.  A QB needs to be protected.  Especially a guy that gets to his spot and wants to finish the play from there. Which CJ is.
