Panthers talk to Greg Jennings

Interesting how everyone's ripping on Greg for having an "ego" or being "self-centered" when what he's doing isn't all that different from what Cam does and everyone says "oh he's just having fun and playing around." Greg did a silly april fools joke that involved his kids, no harm there. Posted about "good charlotte" and "miami something." So what? No different than Cam doing his first down signal all the time--just having their fun. I'm sure you'd all think it was hilarious if he or someone else did this with the Aints or Falcons and then signed elsewhere.

This is the last time Jennings is likely to be in the spotlight during his NFL career and he knows it and he's enjoying it.  I'd bring him into our locker room in a heartbeat.  His Vikings teammates couldn't have been more complimentary on how he handled himself and how he helped the younger WRs.

Lol at even comparing those two things.

No he didn't.

He sort of did.

Like everyone else, Person bought in to Jennings one day early April Fools gag that he had a 'done deal'. He likely called the Panthers to ask if they'd signed him (which of course they hadn't) and took that to mean Jennings was signing elsewhere.

Honestly, it was a logical conclusion given the circumstances, so I can't fault him much for that.

I think if there's a hangup with Jennings, it might actually be the length of the contract rather than the money.

He's indicated he wants a 'finish my career' contract, but at this point nobody's likely to offer more than a one year deal.

I don't remember the exact tweet, but he never indicated nor implied that another team was signing him. I think he just used Greg's tweet where Greg said he had a done deal. Joe just said the Panthers weren't signing him. Maybe could've clarified it better, but I never got that Greg was signing with another team from what Joe said.

Very possible.  I can't imagine teams are willing to offer more than one or two years while he's probably looking for that deal that will carry him into retirement.  Sucks to be in that spot for him.  Tough to feel bad for a guy who's a multi-millionaire, but at the same time, at 31 he's probably looking at playing anywhere between 3 and 6 more years however he probably doesn't want to have to bounce his family all over the place in order to do that.

I'd have no problem offering him a 3-4 year contract as long as it gives us an easy out.  He comes in and produces, then he has his security.  He doesn't, we can thank him for his time and move on.  If he wants that retirement contract, that'll be the type of deal he has to sign.  No one is committing significant guaranteed money for him.

This was it...

Joe Person ‏@josephperson

.@GregJennings tweeting he has a deal done. I'm told it's not with #Panthers.

Yep, all he said is that Jennings himself said he had a deal and he was told the Panthers hadn't signed him which was 100% accurate.

My guess at this point is that, wherever he signs, it'll be a one year deal where they'll ask him to prove he's worth something longer.

Probably, but unless he's asking for a lot of money or wants to be a #1 I don't know what he really has to prove. Other than being hurt in 2012 he's been very consistent. I guess people could be eyeing his 'decline in production' in Minnesota, but with AP's monster year in 2013 and their QBs last year that shouldn't be tough to figure out. If he takes a 1 year deal and does well, then teams are just going to point to his age and say he'll be declining at any moment and he'll be stuck in the same situation again.

My guess is teams want him to prove that he's still the Packer version of himself, not the Viking version.

May or may not be fair, but I think that's the mindset.

I just don't see the issue with his Viking self as long as he isn't seeking big money. He averaged 60 catches and 800 yards his 2 years there, but I admittedly haven't watched every Vikings game so teams could be seeing something specific.
