Team by Team free Agent Grades

ST play isn't gravy. There was no stability in the return game last year. He completely ignored bringing in Ginn immediately makes the return game better. What he brings as a receiver is the gravy. Ginn was brought here to be the return guy.

OK, true and true.

I will be honest.  To me, losing in free agency--the way he seems to view it--is a good thing. Not the way Dallas did it, but the way we lost.  I personally think Gettlemen was masterful this year.  When you see Oher's turnaround--and I see why they feel good about it---and you see the special teams' improvement, you can thank DG.

The bottom line is this:  This is a team game.  You rarely know how a player is going to fit in with the players, coaches, and system.  Often the high-priced guys are perfect fits where they are, or have spent 3-4 years learning the system and teammates.  Why pay for that?  High-end free agency is for the desperate.

Hope were still considering bringing in some of these names in to battle at the (Safety and Strong Side Backer) positions along the rookies and current players we have for the final 53....were a couple players off of having a 2000 ravens type defense...

Seems to me that many times those who finish higher in these ratings meaning that they spent a ton to bring in big name guys, finish near the bottom in regular season rankings. Last years big winner was Tampa, Lol.

Looking at some of the teams with great FA grades last year, I am happy to not be on that list.

Buccaneers A (2-14)

Redskins A- (3-13)

Giants B+ (6-10)

Vikings B+ (7-9)

Falcons B+ (6-10)

Jaguars B (3-13)

Raiders B (3-13)

Gipson is a stud but the Browns slapped a 2nd-RD tender on him before FA even started and no team bit.  They're now working out a long term deal apparently but it's been quiet.

I was wondering if someone would look that up.

I think Rolando McClain might be back out of the NFL shortly. I think he's getting investigated for arson, burning his own house down for cash.

Don't know what happened to Stevie Brown, he was definitely an up and comer. Gman would know tho. Maybe his injury slowed him down some.

These lists are stupid for multiple reasons. Without covering a specific team, it's hard for anyone to know a whole lot about each one of them.

He says the Saints seemed like they changed just to change, with no really plan. Sean Payton clearly said you don't want to change just to change at the end of the year. He said it in his press conference. It's very clear the Saints want to improve their offensive line and defense. Not sure how that slipped by the author.

    • First off, my memory is faulty and so I should remember you. Anyways, welcome back. Having been around here since 2004/2005, I do have to say all these hot takes are not necessary new. I still very much remember all the constant complaints about Jake Delhomme. How he was too inaccurate, fumbled the ball too often, threw bad interceptions, and how Steve Smith deserved a better QB. How this franchise needed to replace Jake for someone better because he dragged everyone down. We even had names for Jake defenders; Blind Delhomme Jock Sniffers (BDJS). That one thread about Chris Weinke over Jake Delhomme because Weinke threw for 423 Yards but only scoring 13 points remains the worst hot takes I've ever seen around here. So to me, it feels like history repeating itself again and I don't feel like getting that much involved in flame wars like I used to. I am more of a sit back and see what the players/team does type of person. And even then, yes, there are so many moving parts that it's not as easy to pinpoint the core issues, especially when you're not inside the building and know every single detail.  And yes, I think even way back then, I hated how overvalued the QB position was and it hasn't gotten much better. It's to where my philosophy has shifted to where if you can't win a SB with a QB on their rookie contract, you might as well get another one. Otherwise, you have to give that QB so much money that the rest of the roster suffers and your window becomes quite narrow.  That's why I'm skeptical that Mahomes/Burrow/Jackson/Allen will win more than one or two SB's between them. None of them look as invisible as they did a few years ago and that's because their targets are much inferior and/or they are getting more roughed up behind a worse O-line.
    • Haha I was still off was thinking of mac jones he has done extremely well this year with basically no weopons as all the 49ers are hurt except for mcaffrey but he is playing slow this year for some reason.
