Jaelen Strong breakdown by Stephen White

Any reason other than 40 time?

Perriman is a superior prospect to Strong in pretty much every way except for hands. Perriman has his drops just like KB, while Strong might have the best hands in the draft (people think the same about Hardy and others too). Watch their highlights, and don't be surprised to find you think Perriman looks a whole lot better.

Hands are kinda important for a WR.

Strong was facing better competition week in and week out.  If I'm picking between the two, I'm taking Strong all day everyday and not even thinking twice about it.

These guys who are considered good prospects and then all of a sudden shoot up boards due to running a fast 40 scare the poo out of me.

Any reason other than 40 time?

I think Perriman brings more of what this offense is missing: big explosive play ability and yards after the catch. Perriman gets over the top of defenses effortlessly and could really excel with Cam's deep ball and arm strength.

When I watched the 10 or so full game cut-ups of Perriman and the UCF offense, he was good for what seemed one big play and/or touchdown a game. He progressed every year. He cleaned up his drops towards the end of his college career. With Ricky's tutelage I think he could be a special player and give us something we have never had at the receiver position.

Strong just doesn't seem to offer a whole lot more than what Kelvin brings to the table outside of more consistent hands. They remind me of one another when I watch them play. I just think this offense needs something it doesn't already have: an explosive vertical threat that can out-jump and out-run an offense. Despite his impressive combine numbers, Strong rarely displayed those athletic traits in his games that I have watched. Many NFL games these days are decided by one big play that shifts momentum and alters the scoreboard. Perriman is a big play threat every time the ball is thrown his way or the ball is in his hands.

They are my top two targets at 25, but if both are there I want Perriman. I would be happy with either because we are past-due putting real talent and surrounding Cam with great receivers. Giving Cam all the tools he needs to succeed should be this teams number one priority.

There are some people who just flat out dislike Strong as a prospect. Here's one guy who has Strong as the 21st ranked WR in the draft class. His rankings differ greatly from many you see, but that really just tells me he is not afraid to stick to his opinion rather than participate in the group think rankings a lot of media guys do where by the draft they all look pretty much the same. Personally, I don't think he should be nearly that low but his reasoning is very similar to basically every other criticism I've seen about Strong which is he just doesn't separate and relies mostly on catching contested passes which they don't feel will translate as well against NFL CB's.

21) Jaelen Strong - “He’s lost his $%#^ mind!” I know this is America’s sweetheart. I just don’t know why. He’s a possession receiver that doesn’t get much separation and he’s too finesse to be a stellar possession receiver in the NFL. His route running could use work as well. He doesn’t have strong hands (no pun intended) as well. We can rave about his 4.44, 42” vertical and 6’2 – 217 frame but that’s the wrapping paper. Don’t get so focused on the wrapping paper that you overlook the gift or lack thereof.

I can get not liking a prospect for whatever reason, but what he's said is insanely idiotic and demonstrably inaccurate.  The guy's hands are unreal and he's basically calling Strong soft as a player.  That's laughable if he's actually watched the guy play.  It might be fair to mention his combine performance if it wasn't for the fact that lots of people loved him back when everyone assumed he was going to test out as a fairly average athlete for an NFL WR.

Honestly, that first sentence he wrote tell me everything I need to know.  He's just writing clickbait and he knows it.

I agree that this guy has Strong a lot lower than he probably should, but Josh Norris(another person not afraid to go against the grain) has had Strong ranked around the 80's overall since before the combine and has him as his 17th best WR right now. There are plenty of respected people who are just not sold on Strong's ability to take his game to the next level and it's a very fair concern.

Yeah strong is this years Brandin cooks for me. He might be a good receiver at some point but I don't believe he is what we need for our team at this point in time.

Perriman or DGB is what our team should be looking at.

I wouldn't be mad taking another position in the first then grabbing Dorset in the second if he falls that far.
