Saints sign Anthony Spencer

1. Will be interesting to see how much Saints paid. Cowboys wanted to re-sign him and Seahawks wanted him

2. Wonder if this alters the Saints draft plans at all

Spencer just turned 31 in Jan 2015. For his whole career until 2013, he was a very good strongside OLB opposite DeMarcus Ware in the 3-4 defense. As a DE in the 4-3 last year, he recorded 27 combined pressures across 457 defensive snaps.

Anthony Spencer was ranked 21st (out of 59) 4-3 DEs by PFF in 2014 with a +2.1 grade.

Hope #Cowboys bring back Anthony Spencer (at the right

price). 4 QB hits, 11 QB hurries, 1 sack, 1 FF & 1 FR for a TD in

final 4 gms of 2014

But going back to a 3-4 team is better for him. The last time he played for Rob Ryan in a 3-4 (in 2012) he had 11 sacks and was a Pro Bowler

If we sign Anthony Spencer we'll draft a WR at 13

31 years old and often-injured, he wants a chance to start, and wasn't going to get it with Hardy now in Dallas. Spencer will move to OLB in New Orleans. It should be noted when he had his Pro Bowl year in 2012 under Rob Ryan in a 3-4, DeMarcus Ware attracted most of the attention away from Spencer. Cameron Jordan and Junior Gallette will not be drawing attention away from Spencer.

Eh.

Everyone will be sucking the Saints off like they signed a key peiece, Saints fans will act like we did when we signed Decoud  and Harper in the off season last year of signing a former pro bowler, when really this is just a solid veteran signing that alters te team but won't change the coer needs.

But lol @ the saints drafting WR at 13. Okay.

How can they afford to sign anyone at all?

10 days ago, G Jahri Evans signed a 3 year re-structured extension to lower his cap number this year by $4 million. There are no more easy fixes for the Saints this year from converting roster bonuses or base salaries into signing bonuses. They will now have to add years and money to existing contracts, and I doubt many more Saint players will agree to sign extensions until they know if Breesus will be back after his contract expires in March 2017.

    • Bryce has been in the NFL 3 years and still looks like a very mediocre QB. Most games are nothing but mediocre plays with a highlight reel every now and then.  He is a very INCONSISTENT QB and it’s very fustrating. He does not deserve a 5th year option, even though the Panthers and all the dumb asses in the front office will give it to him.
    • I’ve rarely ever been more sure of anything than losing out — but how can anyone say with a straight face “Bryce hasn’t improved, but Canales has and he’s masks his flaws”. You have to be so out of touch with reality to put one way above the other when discussing those two.
    • Last night was the classic example of a visiting team just holding on through the wave of emotion a home team has at the start of a big time game. Bama’s first two kickoff returns really set them back as far as playcalling and allowed OU to dictate field position. The emotion of the home crowd fed into what OU was doing at that point, and it felt like Bama would not be able to overcome that.     Once the kickoff returner was told to fair catch every kick, the game shifted, as Bama wasn’t starting each drive inside their own 15. It was then that Bama was able to make some plays, outscoring OU 34-7 the rest of the way.  I think the last 3/4 of the game proves Bama was the better team. OU was just able to ride the initial wave of emotion to a big lead, but Bama held on just enough.  However, had OU blocked the punt on Bama’s second drive and scored a TD (vice a FG on the ensuing drive), things likely would have been different.  Anyway, Roll Tide!
