Mel Kiper was only 22 percent accurate with his picks

Recommended Posts

How did ESPN draft analyst Mel Kiper's final mock draft stack up against what really happened? How accurate was the expert?

At a quick glance at 2015, it appears not very. Kiper correctly predicted seven first-round picks, just 22 percent. He was able to predict the landing spots for Jameis Winston, Marcus Mariota, Amari Cooper, Ereck Flowers, Trae Waynes, Danny Shelton and Melvin Gordon, but missed on the rest.

Kiper also took a crack at the first three rounds, undoubtedly a much more difficult task. He predicted that the Buccaneers would take Winston at No. 1, and they did. In the second round, he had the team taking offensive tackle D.J. Humphries – right position, wrong player. And he missed both the position and player in predicting Florida State defensive end to become a Buccaneer in the third round.

Here’s a look at Mel Kiper’s final mock draft. The player actually selected at that position in in parenthesis.

16. Landon Collins, Texans (Kevin Johnson)

I hate Kiper and the holier than thou image he projects but in fairness I think these "Draft Gurus" are really just guessing and cant see how anyone would presume their entire mock projections to be accurate.

If I cared what Mel Kiper thought I would listen to him for analysis talking points but definitely not peg him on draft projections.

Results like these are the very reason why listening to draft grades now is useless.

These so-called experts are no more experts than 75% of the people posting on the huddle.

I see your 75....

And I raise you 90.

    • Does he not already do that? The go route stuff is to just make space for the constant dink and dunk. That's why it dries up near the 20 where it gets tough.  Difficult to defend? Just get up in scores and lean into it. If they can send pressure without going too soft in coverage it will work agaisnt the Panthers.  I still think the offense is a QB away from instant improvement.
    • I don't know how about 5 at this point. I think that window has closed. Getting the easy stuff early and being notoriously unprepared every year is blowing up in their faces. 3 might be the max. Good Bryce shows up when the other team is having a practice game or an off weak after watching our film. It's basically a sucker punch to teams mailing it in. Groundhog day? More like Groundhog year again
    • It's a weak take like it was a weak game. It was garbage time against backups. That's his shine time. It's should be made fun of because it was pathetic. The WRs were gassed? What about the backup DBs? Those guys must have been really tired since they sit on the bench most of the time. Take that BS and go whine to someone else. man or zone they played off the line and back 10 yards in soft ass coverage. That and practice is all Young is good at. When the other team plays like they want to win he shuts down. Same as last year. Blah blah blah
