Pretty good write up on Cam Newton and the lazy hot take sports media crowd

Anyone who has seen my post know that I love our QB and I  support the Panthers. I'm glad to see the support. The write-up is actually quite good... but I have only one gripe: The stats in the graph.

The stats don't seem to be in any particular ranking order. It may be picky to some, but at first glance It appears that Cam's stats are at the top of all of these categories when they're actually not. The reader needs to be sure that they're interpreting the numbers properly. This is just a comparison of Cam with other notable QB's. Its no indication that Cam is number 1 or top five in any catergories. It leaves out other QB's whose stats may actually better than Cams or the others he's being compared to.

Its a nice feel good piece... but Im not so biased about Cam that I walk into being misled... on any level.

Exactly. It's no better than when someone cherry-picks a few stats(with no context) to take shots at Cam. Silly article.

I don't think I've seen anyone on here ever say Cam sucks unless I'm wrong. I don't know why this issue keeps coming back. We can win with him but he's has ways to go before he's elite. I'm hoping he starts showing that this year.

Given his number of years compared to others in a similar format: he is elite.

comparing him to Tom Brady and Peyton and Aaron Rodgers and Drew Bree's in years 8 9 10 11 is why people have a problem.

We are are so damn fortunate and people still don't want to pay this guy.  Give him the money and mark my words watch what happens during the duration of that contract.

yea i have a good friend that goes to my church. fellow panther fan, but cant stand Cam. i literally cant talk with him about Panther football because he's always like "Cam will never be elite."

his reason? exact words today: "I just dont see any potential on the field. you can give me as many numbers (stats) as you want but i have to see it on the field." he said this AFTER i attempted to get him to look at this article in this thread.

you cant make the blind see i guess... :/

The media has successfully molded a negative public view of Cam; one that will never go away.

I'll never forget that comment made about Cam having a "fake smile". Wasn't it true that the journalist that made that comment had never met Cam?

That comment was so malicious. Even if you don't like a player, why be a scumbag and say something so baseless?

It's amazing...   Look how quickly mass sports media has jumped at the opportunity to forgive guys like Winston, Leaf, Dante Stallworth, Ray Lewis,  etc., and yet,  Cam has done nothing but be an incredible, otherworldly talent, producing on a level that has never been seen before in the NFL,  AND be an outstanding person off the field just the same.

Like I said in the nfl top 100 thread, which is a prime example of the blind hate he receives, I decided a couple years ago, but really came to peace with it last season, that I have to accept these idiots.  I'm sure Cam has come to the same conclusion.  The only thing we can do as fans of the team and as his fans, is support him, believe in him, and campaign for him...   He'll continue to be the amazing, once-in-a-generation talent that he is (yes, that includes his career sub-60% completion pct., which would be greatly improved with adequate protection and recievers), and I think it will be one of those things that once he retires, everyone will recognize him for the awesome player and person he is.

Could not agree more.  I actually also pretty much gave up on it last year.  It was no longer really worth the effort

This article I thought was just a good one so I posted it.

    • Biiiiiig eyeroll on this.  First, Look at historical stats of the most recent historical great DBs.  I plucked 3, Revis, Sherman, and Norman (cuzz he was our guy).  Combined post age 30, there are TWO pro bowls between those 3 and wanna get this...ZERO seasons with 16 games started.  ALL missed time.  It is RARE that Corners survive that long in the NFL and its about time we started recognizing this fact.  Jaycee is a good bet because it hasnt been anything seriously devastating injury wise, and with his sample size he could and should be an incredible piece for the panthers through age 30. Jaire kinda flops on the other side, hes 28...so hes under 30, but he wants his payday before it comes up, hes also been injury prone lately.  Bulk of the contract will be on opposite side of 30.  Will both of these guys help us be better in 2026?  SURE!  No doubt, but the question is, will these guys help us past 2026...not sure. The investment isnt worth the risk, nor would the ROI be anywhere close to worth it.  Neither guy is moving us from a 6-8 win team to a 8-10 team, period. My point is we're in this state a 6-8 win team IMO and he projects us as  a 4-6 win team.  EVEN if we think Jaire or Ramsey will make us a 6-8 win team, it in NO WAY is worth the money or capital to move that much just to suck kinda less.
    • I assumed he was retiring but apparently he plans on playing multiple more seasons.  Florida is gonna have trouble holding onto everyone.  Happens to all teams that have that much success.
    • I hate Marchand, but if he became a free agent.....
