Morons vs Geniuses

Mr. Scot

Recommended Posts

Recent post after a tweet by Gil Brandt said Cam Newton could be as successful as Aaron Rodgers in the right situation...

Brandt invented the modern draft, of course the man knows football.

Another post, after Brandt said he doesn't see the Panthers making the Super Bowl this year...

FUG BRANDT!

Now to be clear, these two posts were not made by the same person, but they highlight a trend around here of deciding which analysts know what they're talking about based on their most recent opinion of the Panthers.  To be totally frank, an opinion of someone's football knowledge based on whether the last thing they said about the Panthers was positive or not is a weakly formed and poorly thought out opinion, especially when you've previously said the opposite.

So I'm gonna challenge folks to do a little bit of objective analysis.

Tell me which analysts / writers / commentators / whatever you think truly know football and generally give informed, well thought out opinions.

Likewise, tell me which ones are consistently poor and hardly worth listening to.

In both cases, tell me why, and you need to give me something better than whether or not they like the Panthers or their players.

So you tell me: In the world of football media, who are the geniuses and who are the morons?

Not sure why they can't be both.  I know sometimes I'm a moron and sometimes I'm a genius.  Same with media.

I listen to Gil Brandt on Sirius quite a bit and totally respect his knowledge and background.  But in listening you can also occasionally hear his age negatively affecting his points.  Not often, but it happens.  Most of the time he is right on.

The fact that he can simultaneously (in one offseason) argue that you can drop Cam onto the Packers roster with great success and also state that the chance of the Panthers challenging for a Super Bowl is on par with the Jags is absurd after the way we have finished the last two seasons and with an improved roster.

    • Ohio State no. 8 won it all last year.  No. 6 Penn State and no. 7 Notre Dame advanced to the semi-final. This year no. 7 Ole Miss is going to win it all.
    • agreed.  Lack of games/opportunity makes him a non-factor in OROTY talk.  He is just now getting the stage where there is legit film on him.  Takes awhile to really see how guys react to all the different scenarios and to find the real weak spots on a QB's play in an O.
    • Oh boy how the tables have turned...the passion and extent at which you defend Shough would make even the staunchest Bryce fanboys blush.  The bold part is especially straight from their playbook.  Even if someone here were to withhold giving Shough props, it's pretty understandable as a Panthers fan.  What's quite odd is becoming the biggest stan of our most hated rival's starting QB.  I don't think even Saints fans drool over him this hard. For the record I think this talk about "stans" and "fanboys" is cringe AF and I'm admittedly being rather hyperbolic because this is exactly the kind of discourse and language you personally love to engage in and it's fun to play in the mud from time to time.  There is absolutely no world where you do not meet your own criteria of a "Super Stan" for Shough with how loosely you apply that label to people for Bryce in here.  You're like the Final Boss of Super Stans.
