How the Panthers spend: running back

The Panthers still rank second in the NFL behind the Minnesota Vikings in spending at running back despite the release of all-time leading rusher DeAngelo Williams and what would have been a $6.3 million hit against the salary cap. They’re still spending more than twice the NFL average ($7,647,083) at the position.

After 5 years the pain just isn't there.  Its been replaced with an eye-roll, a finger to the sky, an inaudible utterance of  varied curses to the house of Hurney, and then a raging warmth of pure boner pops up when I remember Cam Kuechly, the greatest thing EVAR!

Yep, it sucks to always have to use the "if Stewart can stay healthy" line, but if he can I think he can put up huge numbers.  Unfortunately, Stewart missing some games is virtually inevitable and history indicates that it's likely that he'll miss a decent chunk of them.

I wonder if any NFL team in the history of the league has ever gotten worse ROI on two RB contracts than we have out of DeAngelo and Stewart?  I wonder what we've spent in dollars per yard?  I'm too lazy to look it up and do the math, but I'm sure it would be hideous.

Running backs take more punishment than any other position in football. It's why its the position with the shortest average career in the NFL. Expecting any running back to never miss any time is a insane. To say any play has to never miss time to justify a contract is equally insane.

Stewart was playing really well at the end of last yr.  If he can stay healthy while giving us 12+ starts and be ready for the playoffs,  he's going to be worth every penny ....diamond encrusted, platinum pennies (platinum mined from a comet)..

 but still worth it

Stewart needs to play all season with at least 1600 yards and 8 TDs to remotely justify that contract.

I think thats when they could both stay healthy... which lasted about 3 weeks.

You have to admit that without the injury issues these two would have been incredible together.
