Well, a few things, First, even at 12 years ago, the 2003 NFL was a different league with much less passing, the dynamic has changed tremendously in such a short time.  IMO, the stats for Delhomme passing in his first 3 years are more impressive than Newton's first 3, but that doesn't take into account the whole game, including Cam's rushing ability which makes him a far better overall player.  The other thing to consider is the fact that by 2003 (when Jake made his debut), he had already been in the NFL, or NFL europe for 7 seasons, that's very significant because Jake had his injury year in his 11th season.  On top of this, the major difference is leadership qualities.  In 2003, Jake was a seasoned NFL vet, even if it was as a backup, where as Cam started game 1 of his rookie season, 2 wholly different situations.  While Jake did mature while in the position, he didn't have to make a dramatic change to become the leader like Cam did.  I don't worry about Cam having a dip, or worry about the injury bug this year really (unless our LT plays as poorly as we have heard in practice), what I think will happen this year is for Cam to take all the lesson's he's learned over the years and finally put everything together and take the next jump to truly elite QB status.

Jake made for some exciting seasons, and he was one of the best quarterbacks when the team was behind. He won a lot of games for us that we had no right winning. He was great in his own, gunslinging, never say die way. And he set the bar very high in his first season with us.

Cam is making for some exciting seasons, and he will just keep getting better. I can't call Cam great yet because, honestly, he hasn't reached his full potential. Barring some sort of freak injury, he'll keep on working at what will end up being, justifiably, a Hall of Fame career. A Super Bowl win is about all he needs to make sure of it.

Two completely different QBs and we should all be fans of both.

You forgot W/L records and playoff performances.

Cam's clearly on a path to be the best we've ever had at the position, but Jake caught fire in Carolina and was good enough here that when Brees joined the division a lot of people thought Jake was better at the time.  But he was also 28 when he arrived, and had that maturity and leadership that Cam is still developing.

Good times are ahead, but don't use Cam to beat up Jake, it's not right.  Be grateful we had him when we did, be grateful for Cam, and look forward to the future without selling the past short.

I think Jake Delhomme has the edge. He was a great leader and keep mistakes to a minimum. He was a more consistent passer than Cam. Cam is more exciting but Jake has the edge right now. I feel that was the prime era ( so far) of the Panthers.
