Panthers taking Patriots game seriously

So if I follow this storyline, last year we didnt gameplan or take the Patriots seriously in the third game and got blown out so that was a harbinger of the future and what would happen in the regular season when we actually did gameplan and take each one seriously??????

And  because of that loss last year we are taking them seriously this year and by gameplanning and playing better, it will somehow help us do better when the regular season starts this year??

That makes absolutely no sense at all unless the goal might be to better be able to predict how we will do early in the regular season based on this game.  While that is still a tenuous conclusion, assuming the result of last years game had anything to do with how we finished last year or that doing better this year will make this year more successful seems to be a huge nonsequitur..

I've always considered the third preseason game to be the only that mattered.

First, it is the closest to a real game regarding the game planning and effort put forth by the first team, not to mention the first team playing most of the game.

Second, it is the last chance our first team has to develop momentum and confidence before the season starts. Winning and success is an attitude that only comes from experiencing it.

If our offense has three straight games with a slow start, then you can count on that carrying over into the season. There won't be any momentum built up for any of the offensive starters, and we've all seen the difference in our team when confident with momentum versus on their heels and struggling.

This game is our first team's final chance to set the tone for the remainder of the season, and I believe that they will come out with the fire of a regular season game. I wouldn't be surprised to see Cam scramble a little either, to the worry of all others. Hears to a good game and a Panthers' victory!

So when Indy would sit Peyton every year in the preseason and go 0-4 and then put him in during the record season somehow the momentum carried over even though they did much better in the regular season and rested him to limit the chance of injury.  Likewise if we continue to rest Funchess, Star and Charles Johnson among others this game, somehow the momentum will carry over to the regular season even though we dont have all the starters playing?  Got it.......

Why not do a comparison of preseason results and regular season results and see if one predicts the other.  I havent done it but I would assume there is a correlation but not one you mentioned.  I would think doing well in the preseason means our 2nd and 3rd stringers may be better than other teams which also means our depth is better.  So in the cases of injuries with improved depth we may fare better in the regular season. Any other conclusion appears to be very tenuous at best.

Does it count as "realistic" if one team game plans to get an advantage and the other team doesn't? Shouldn't we be aiming to win on a level footing?

Preseason three is the game every team puts more effort into.

It's considered to be the "dress rehearsal" for the regular season.

No, and no. One, it should be "Realistic" if we game plan, and they don't, that we should whoop that azz. Two, if the opposing team ain't up to our level, and we whoop that azz, that ain't our fault.

that's not what happened last year. last year the pats game planned and played hard while we acted like it was any other preseason game. we went in to evaluate our players. they went in to get revenge for beating them the year before. we were quite simply sucker punched. considering it was the pats, we shouldn't have been surprised. any one watching the game could tell it meant more to the pats going into the game than us and we were absolutely not on a  level footing in regards to planning, motivation, and performance. this year it appears we will be closer to level footing by treating this as a real game/grudge match. if anyone gets sucker punched this year, i would rather it be them. the pats have it coming.

To add to your oh so solid point. I am of the mind that evaluation during Pre Season is the top priority. With an eye out to prepping for the real season. Which is why I advocate that the first two games should be exclusively for the back-ups. Then use the third game as a warm-up, with starters only playing three or four series. Then go full out in that last game with the starters going into the second half.

This gives you two and a half games to get a good look at the kids. Which allows you to make a quick, but informed, decision on who you want to go with. You can then finish the Pre Season working with the guys you are going to go to war with, so you aren't wasting time and energy on guys who aren't going to be around anywho.

Just a thought I have had floating around. Your post gave me push I needed to get it out there.

This don't really mean much if the Pats aren't taking us as serious

If they don't take us seriously. They deserve to get their azz whooped.

I'm still not sweating it one way or the other. Even if it's the most important preseason game, it's still the preseason. If we get blown out, we still have time to make adjustments before the regular season. If we do well, we can build on that and move forward.

All I care about is our team staying healthy. Couldn't care less about the score.

I'm not worried about the final score.

If we don't  look good though, I'll be quite worried.

Preseason Three is the closest you can get to a regular season preview. Zod is right. Looking bad here is a genuine cause for concern.
