A funny moment after the Carolina Panthers completed practice on Sunday. Coach Ron Rivera was going down the list of injuries when he was asked about "Miley." The coach responded, "Cyrus?" Uh, no, defensive end Arthur Miley, he was told. "0h, Arthur. Arthur had a sore knee," Rivera said. The singer wasn't at practice and isn't on Carolina's injury report.

Um... poor Ron.  Sounds like he's sleep deprived!

Practice observations from David Newton:

http://espn.go.com/blog/carolina-panthers/post/_/id/15336/panthers-wr-devin-funchess-misses-one-handed-catch-but-returns-full-go

Here are excerpts:

Overtime: Wide receiver Corey Brown, who dropped four passes in Friday night’s 17-16 loss to New England and two the previous week against Miami, didn’t appear to have any misses in practice. But he did spend time after practice working individually on catching passes on out patterns with his hands instead of his body.

Red zone work: While the rest of the team worked on special teams, quarterback Cam Newton worked with tight end Greg Olsen, Funchess and Brown on goal line passes. The Panthers ranked 26th in the NFL last season in scoring touchdowns inside the 20.

Cat scratch: Pro bowl middle linebacker Luke Kuechly appeared to be limping at one point, but it wasn’t anything serious. He received a deep scratch after being caught by a cleat.

Back to work: Funchess wasn’t the only player back from injury. Defensive end Charles Johnson (calf), offensive guard Amini Silatolu (knee) and Kawann Short (back) were full go after sitting out Friday night. Barring a setback all will participate in Thursday night’s preseason finale at Pittsburgh.

Coaches are determined to make Brown a starter on this team.  I guess they like his route running and think the drops can be fixed.  Lets hope so.

What would they do differently if they werent determined to make him a starter? Would they prevent him from practicing catching with his hands? What are they doing specifically to make you think this?

I was referring to the fact that Cam was working on redzone drills with only Olsen, Funchess, and Brown.  Olsen and Funchess are clearly our 1 and 2...so wouldn't one assume that they still view Brown as our #2WR (#3 pass catcher if you include Olsen)?

Well that and Cothery is dinged up. Hes certainly a hopeful to be in the top 3 receivers.

Rivera says Kony Ealy has earned the second defensive end starting job. "He's seized the opportunity and taken the bull the horns"

looool coach speak. He makes it sound like Kony has been killing it the past couple of weeks. He was alright Friday but overall, not really....

Yep.  beating TEs or not getting blocked--he did get a pressure vs Brady after his sack....

The sleeves do not matter when catching passes. There have been numerous WRs that wore sleeves throughout their career and it didn't affect them. Keyshawn Johnson comes to mind.  Our very own Moose used to wear them a lot. And probably the most significant WR, Cris Carter.

why are the sleaves always so loose. Some tight ffitting sports material isn't allowed?
