CAP may get significant playing time right from the start

We're shuffling snaps with the center position, and now we are giving our starting running back only 15 carries a game?  Let's not even mention the fact that our starting receivers would be no higher than number 4 guys on most teams.  Listen guys, Rivera is a genius when it comes to defense, but it's safe to say he is clueless when it comes to offense.  Throw in Shula running the offensive scheme to add insult to injury.

All that said, we have great players on offense, and I'll be depending on their skills to carry us through this year.  Hopefully Cam takes over and directs things on his own like a Peyton Manning or Tom Brady.  That is how we will win a superbowl this year.

Maybe the quote is out of context. Or, said wrong. The idea behind it, I imagine, is that we have such a loaded backfield, we can easily distribute the runs. 15 to Stewart, 15 to CAP, 10 to Wegher, 5 to Tolbert. That's 45 offensive plays. Ron may understand that now, we're in a situation where we don't have to slam Stewart with run after run just to make sure that we don't have to put DWill on the field and watch him play like he did here the last two years.

got no beef with that.  But if there goal is for 15 carries this year to be an ideal max for him....I don't like that

Or, it's possible that Stewart becomes the closer, much like Brandon Jacobs was in New York during the 'Earth, Wind, and Fire' years. Let Ahmad Bradshaw carry the load, then, once they've started wearing down, let Brandon Jacobs punch them in the mouth continuously.

Stewart wears people down with his style....others won't do it for him.  He will carry dudes with him for 3 yards when it should be 0.

all this loaded backfield junk is why our run game always suffers IMO.  Run a RB.   Stewart is the guy.

Adrian Peterson isn't going to be on a limited snap count bc he didn't play in preseason.  Or last year.  He will get at least 25 touches Monday night

I don't think Stewart and AP are comparable, though. Adrian Peterson is (was?) the best at what he does. He has a style unto himself. You can't compare what Lebron James is doing because Magic Johnson did it a different way. Look around the league, sharing carries has become the norm. It's possible Ron doesn't want to get him hurt. I mean, there's a myriad of reasons why he would want to do this.

He sees the offense more than we ever will.

I think Stewart and CAP are going to be another '1 2 punch' like Carolina has done for years.

Stewart is the work horse to wear down defenses and grind out tough yards, and even though CAP is capable of that too, I think he is going to be more of the 3rd and long back.

Surely we will see CAP as fresh legs once Stew has worn them down too.

Wegher will be the 3rd and Long back, because he's the one with the speed.

Interesting article by Scott Fowler in today's Observer.  It sounds like from something Ron told Scott, J. Stew may be limited to about 15 carries per game, meaning CAP may be getting significant play time right from week 1.  Wow.   I wonder if Wegher will be active?  I've been assuming he won't be, but if Stew is limited to this amount of carries, maybe we'll want more RBs to share the load.

So, of our rookies:

  • Shaq is starting.
  • CAP is already being planned on for a big role behind J Stew to keep him healthy.
  • Funchess will probably get significant snaps, but his role and impact is still a bit hard to judge given our messed up WR situation and his lack of preseason snaps with Cam.
  • D. Williams will almost certainly be playing RT when Remmers moves in to Center to replace Kalil who will be on a limited snap count.
  • David Mayo - largely being ignored by most observers, but will probably have some wow ST tackles...

Just amazing!   All 5 of our rookies playing and possibly having significant impact in week 1?!?!  Really?!  Is that unheard of?  Has a team ever played 100% of its rookies in game 1 unless they're leading by something like 30 points, or completely in "rebuilding, our season is shot to hell mode, and we need to get these guys experience" ?  (ok, I know we had a very small draft class..., but STILL.  This is just mad.)

I guess none of this is really "news" to any of us who have been watching the preseason.  It's been obvious all 5 can have a solid role & impact quickly.  But dang, to see that bit about CAP in writing today just solidified this all for me.

impossible per Huddle logic.....

Ron doesn't like rooks and only plays vets.

ps.....Panthers were top 5 last year in number of plays run on offense.

expect more of the same.

If we are only giving the rock to Stewart 15 times a game we are in trouble. He's a RB, not a vase. Pound Stewart!  He needs the carries to get in rythum.

Let him carry more than 15, 16 times a game and he won't make it through the halfway mark of the season. I love Jstew, but he is not durable.

b/c of preseason?   28 was a beast down the stretch.    That was with a load.

you can't give 28 just 4 carries in preseason and expect him to show anything.  He grinds people.

I'd be willing to bet Stewart will end up injured in this- his last- season with the Panthers. I love the guy when he's healthy, but he's been hurt in 5 of his 8 seasons with the team. And the fact they're starting the season with him nursing an injury doesn't bode well.

If he gets healthy early, we could see 700-800 yards, otherwise it'll be just another disappointment.
