Ron Rivera wants Cam to run less

I think you know that I have not agreed with Gettleman on everything in the past.

Of course there is a difference between that, and some of the silliness you've offered up here.

Now, let's look at our WR situation as it stands. We have drafted a WR within the first 2 rounds within the last 2 years. KB is obviously out for the season, which was unexpected to say the least. If we were to acquire a legitimate WR at this point, it would have to be via trade. So who, and for how much? Keep in mind, that if we take on a trade right now, we are likely to have to give up a fairly substantial pick, while also taking on a potentially hefty salary if the WR is worth a poo.

I know this wasn't to me but to clarify, wasn't really trashing Gettleman in my post as much as I was just saying that generally, Rivera gets too much blame and Gettleman always gets a free pass. Not much you can do losing your top WR and the only one really worth a fug, so the only thing I'd have done differently was go after a few of the FA WR I mentioned a couple weeks ago and try to grab one of them. Guys who are FA in late August usually aren't gonna command the kind of money that would make most people bitch on here.

I think Nicks would help, I know a lot of people here disagree and I don't care. Gettleman offered him a contract just last year. Maybe it's Nicks who just doesn't want to play at home. But he's really the only guy left I actually believe can help.

I understand. I'm certainly not giving Gettleman a pass on this.

Personally, I would love for us to go out, and get a quality WR as much as the next fan right now. But, it's a shitty situation.

I'm not entirely against bringing Nicks in, but I think we have to look at it realistically. Gettleman has familiarity with him, by all accounts he's not interested. Right now there does not appear to be any other teams tripping over their own shoe laces to go out, and sign Nicks either. Why? He isn't going to command a high salary. There has to be more to it.

The Colts, the Titans, and the Cowboys (so far) would disagree with you on how much Nicks could help.

Outside of Kugbila in the 4th round of the 2013 draft, I'd really like someone to explain to me these terrible personnel decisions Gettleman has been making that are holding ol' Ron back.

Bell and Chandler last year, Ginn and Brown this year. Failing to resign any of your WRs in one offseason. Failing to find a quality LT. Tagging Greg Hardy.

If if we fail to have a winning season again this year, that's 4/5 in the Cam/Ron era. No way that Ron, Shula, and even Cam should all survive that. At least one has to go and Cam already has his money. I'm predicting that no changes are made no matter what and that too falls on Gettleman.

There's such a thing as schemes and depth that sort of determines that

I mean, the Saints would say that Jake Delhomme was a throwaway backup who was only popular with local fans bc of his accent and his local ties, but we kinda put that to bed didn't we?

That's one thing I agree with that it does make you scratch your head because the guy has a workout with a different team just about every week. So I do agree there has to be something we're missing because he had a contract offer here last year.

What quality LT was there in the draft at our spot? What quality LT was available in free agency? What quality WR was available in free agency? How would we get multiple free agents and lock up Cam and Luke while leaving room for future extensions for Star, KK, Norman(?), etc. Getting rid of Gettleman would be the dumbest move this franchise has ever made.

So we got the best mobile qb and we dont want him to run? If you want him to pass more get better receivers . Tedd ginn as our #1 doesnt cut it and funchess is not as good as we made him out to be

After one game, Ginn is poo and Funchess isn't as good as 'we' made him out to be..

I'd give it a few more games before we hit the panic button. Usually after game one the team gets a feel of what needs to be done. Execution is key, they didn't execute the plays like they should have. Ginn would have been a hero if he didn't drop the TD pass. Shula isn't without blame either, but he relatively called a decent game. The defense won't be there to bail us out every time though.

One thing we have to understand as fans. Even if we get another wide out. He has to learn the playbook and learn a new language, the verbiage of this teams offense. That takes time. If we bring in some wide out to perform right away, he'd have to be some freak of nature. He'd have to play and use and rely more on his physical attributes than because of his  knowledge of the playbook. He'd be playing street ball basically. I don't see any wr out there that can have an impact like that. It's essentially what KB did last season. He outmuscled everyone while learning the playbook. This year he would have probably taken a step further. Funchess could be in the same boat but he doesn't play to his size. That is the major problem. He needs to learn that.

Right now, all we have is Olsen, the buckeye boys, Old Wiley Cotchery, a Rookie from Michigan and some dude we traded for. They'll have to make it work somehow. Bringing in someone may not be an option. Unless Gettleman trades for a big physical wide out for a high draft pick. Which is not his M.O.

We're going to have to hope that Shula game plans and the players execute when they are called upon.
