line now up to -8 with Brees out

That's a big spread for an NFL game.  Vegas is thinking we're going to win fairly easily.

 

The Panthers started as three-point favorites, but the line has steadily increased this week as Brees’s chances of playing grew fainter. After the Saints on Friday officially announced that he was out, the point spread was bumped to Panthers -8 at most books.

At this point losing this game would probably be worse than if we'd lost to the Jags or Texans. It finally seems to be registering with the 'experts' that the Saints aren't good this year, even with a healthy Brees.

Still wouldn't bet the game. But I wouldn't bet the nfl. The people who can make money doing it are complete badasses. There is some X-factor that only a few people really get.

The spread only changes based on what the betting public thinks will happen. I wouldn't put too much stock into it. It starts reasonable and then based on how many people bet one way or the other it moves. 

Clearly right now the betting public is putting money on Carolina to win to the point where it's getting to be -8,-9,-10 just to try and get more people to put money on the Saints.
