Shula called a better game today than McDermott

May not last but Captain Dipshlt has called 2 good games in a row.  Can't believe the Huddle didn't notice.

What do you guys think is different this year?  Sure AF isn't the talent.

 

WR by committee, almost nonexistent running game other than Cam.

 

Shula should have been given a game ball the last 2 weeks.

 

Maybe you can teach an old dog new tricks.

At this point, I believe two things are happening.

One, the offense is basically no longer Shula's. It's Cam saying, "you know what, fug this, I'm doing what I can to win this game."

Two, the defense is Luke's. Without him, Klein is like, "hey gaiz, let's do that one play where I tackle the guy in the backfield and if I miss him Harper has my back k?"

McD was pretty terrible today.  Norman really bailed us out at the end.  We never adjusted to the fact that we were letting McCown absolutely carve us up with our soft coverages.

Simple: WAY better O-line for him and Cam.

That's not to say he can't go back to being Shula, but with an vastly better O-line and a generational talent in Cam, plays can actually be executed without being blown up because Bell or Chanlder missed a block (which was all the time). However, still don't trust Shula going forward, but I like the combo of his plays and Cam audibiling so I think it may work.

It is the Saints D. I have beef with the personnel packages and the read option. His "big hit" plays are becoming obvious. If Shula didn't have Cam, he'd be a QB coach at Utah.

So when offense has a bad game you are going to blame Cam and not Shula, right? Just clarifying.

 

There are times, for sure. It can easily be both. Like when Cam tried to fire that bullet into Funchess' belly between two defenders and missed horribly - it's Cam trusting in his arm too much. The gunslinger mentality. I also think that's why we occasionally see the long 2nd and short/3rd and short bombs. The gunslinger mentality.

Shula is calling plays to utilize Cams abilities a lot better. Combine this with Cam playing incredibly well, and a much improved O line. ...And also the fact that we played the freakin Saints defense...

We finally have a good enough oline to take advantage of the vertical aspects of our Air Coryell based offense. 

Shula is actually doing very little different on a situational basis it's just that we now have the personnel for it to be effective.
