Most Respected Panther

according to teammates...

They had this discussiong on Mike and Mike this morning about the most respected player in their respective sports, and it got me thinking who was the most respected Panther. I'm sure most people will pick the same.

Current: John Kasey, Jake Delhomme

All-time: Jerry Richardson, Sam Mills.

Kasay hands down

For a guy to be here from the start and to help other along like Steve Smith. I would say the guys on the team would vote him most respected if the occasion presented itself. Mills was great, but here for just a short time. Too short.

I think Beason will be one looked up to one day as top 3 most respected.

He just does all the right things.

As far as Delhomme goes, if it wasnt for the respect of his teammates his job might would be in more of a jeopardy. He is the unquestioned leader of the offense. Everytime I hear Jordan Gross speak about Delhomme, he sounds like he is talking about an NFL Legend.

A lot of fans dont think highly of Jake because of his bad games, but there is not doubt that his teammates do.

But Im sure fans know more about Jake than teammates.

I love John Kasay but I find it hard to believe that the kicker would be the most respected. Just saying.

I agree with Delhomme and Sam Mills but as a coach not as a player.

I am surprised that no one has mentioned Moose. I know he left for the Bears and came back but if anyone has any respect for Smitty they have to see the influence Moose had on his career.

Others not mentioned, Ricky Phrole and Richard Williamson. Everyone always talks about Kasay being the lone original Panther left on the team but that is not true. Williamson has been the WR coach since 1995 and I think joined the team before Kasay but I'm not sure of that.

You're right. Saying the kicker is the most-respected player on the majority of teams would be laughable. But not in the case of the Carolina Panthers.

Like you note, Kasay is the last original Panthers player. Couple that with his faith and leadership in the lockerroom, and I think he's definitely one of the most respected guys in the lockerroom, if not the most-respected player on the team. Who did Smith go talk to after the incident with Lucas last year?

    • Many layers my frend- Panthers had a draft recently. They picked 4 defense players. Each player picked 11, 22, 33, 55 as their number. For some players that number match the round or pre-draft round rank, example- Prince was a 3rd rounder and choose 33. Nic was a 1st rounder on some mock drafts and Dan Morgan said they had him as a 1st, he picked 11. Cam Jackson recently switched his number to 55, same as draft and has been telling Dave he wants to be special over and over.  The 44 was to add GOAT feels, thoughts, and more intrigue to this rookie phenomenon. X files was cause it was a great TV show and maybe it was playing when this theory came together.......   I hope this helps!
    • The best things Purdy has are certainly important tools for any QB. His accuracy his timing his decision making etc. I feel like he is a high end Teddy Bridgewater. You can compete and win in the regular season with this especially in a weakened NFC but where his limitations come into focus is when you are trying to contend for a Super Bowl you are going against elite and in some instances generational QB's like Mahomes. And when the time has come for him to go up against Mahomes he simply can't get it done. Now certainly he is not alone in that regard and people will point to another highly regarded QB such as Josh Allen who also cannot get by Mahomes. But the difference I see is Allen is not IMO at a phsyical disadvantage in that matchup whereas Purdy is. And that is with what had been to this point a comically stacked roster around Purdy and let's be clear we cannot understate that regardless of which side of the fence we land on in this debate. Purdy has had a top 5 roster and a top 5 coach. And the last time they went to the Super Bowl they leaned on McCaffrey extremely heavily. Now with what they are having to pay him and divert limited resources elsewhere they face a steep climb to get back to the Super Bowl let alone actually win it.
    • Lonzo mentioned Melo going to the Clippers, but he also said we would draft Dylan Harper and he isn't making it to 4.
